2023-24 Women's Basketball Roster - California Golden Bears Athletics (calbears.com)

suggestion: read the bios of the four incoming transfers and you'll get pumped up for this season! The credentials
of Ioanna Krimili, Ila Lane & McKayla Williams indicate to me that they all should be starters. They should join Kemery Martin (10.6 ppg) & Leilani McIntosh (9.6 ppg) in the starting lineup.

Marta Suarez earned all SEC freshman honors for Tennessee but has only played two seasons. She played against tougher competition and could be the *surprise* this season.

I have a feeling that Cal will be improved shooting in every area. I also project that the Bears will be a stronger rebounding and interior defensive team. GO BEARS!

Coach Smith really killed it with the portal. Honestly, I haven't been this excited in years for a season to start. Go Bears!

Question for you or whomever: is this the tallest Cal has been in awhile, especially in terms of depth? If your 5 is the starting 5 (not questioning that at all), it means Onyiah and Langarita are off the bench....that's pretty strong.

Yes.

Looking back at previous rosters (on Calbears.com), the 2016-17 team had:

Penina Davidson 6'3
Courtney Range 6'3
CJ West 6'4
Kristine Anigwe 6'4
Jaelyn Brown 6'1
KC Waters 6'2

That team finished 20-14 with a trip to the NCAA Tournament (Beat LSU; lost to #5 Baylor).

Michelle could benefit from coming off the bench by providing an added spark and could limit her foul trouble. Claudia came off the bench last season.

Go Bears!!!
Open practice October 8 10 AM!!

Good comparison, thanks...obviously, Anigwe was very athletic on top of being 6-4, and, obviously to a lesser degree, so were Davidson and Range.
It will be interesting to see if certain players emerge enough that Charmin goes with a tighter rotation...

Unfortunately, this coincides with the first WNBA final at 12 on ABC, so BearBloke and I will have to leave early. He will cheer on the Liberty, being a Stewie fan, and I'll holler for the Aces.

BTW, what is Coach Smith's overall Pac-12 record? Do you think she will reach overall .500 (the minimum to be considered mediocre) this year? Next year? What year?

Go Bears!
