what the WNBA needs is a few trans that can dunk so the game will be more appealing

there are some lowlite videos of women's basketball that make one cringe as the quality of play is so far below the mens

I am all for women's basketball, but the complaining about money irks me

What "irks" me is that you post your ignorance on a forum dedicated to women's basketball.

Why would dunking make the game more appealing?

And I think there's a distinction between "athleticism" and "quality of play." It is possible to play the game well -- play hard, execute a game plan, maximize your chances for success -- and not be an exceptional athlete. (And there are plenty of exceptional athletes who don't play the game well.)

Those who enjoy the athleticism of the sport much more than the playing of the game will always be unhappy with the women's game, because men are better athletes -- bigger, stronger, faster, more explosive.

At the high school level, boys' coaches who switch to the girls' side usually assume that their level of coaching (Xs and Os, if you will) will give them an immediate advantage. And though the bad girls' coaches are worse than the bad boys' coaches, at the upper levels of the girls' high school game, the level of coaching is not much different, if at all, than the on the boys' side, which is sometimes a surprise to boys' coaches.

And there's not a sexist bone in your body, right?

The most popular player in the NBA is Steph Curry and he never dunks a ball. Maybe you should send him a note telling him he will increase his popularity by dunking more.

Wow, what terrible comments. There are so many accomplished women athletes playing in the WNBA. I marvel at their physical conditioning and skills. The recent Championship games highlighted the impact of women in professional basketball. Many collegiate players coming into the league will only increase the competiveness of the Women's Basketball worldwide. By trans, do you mean Transgender? This isn't the forum for such insensitive comments!

I've played plenty of women/girls in pickup games, and always a little wary of them as I expect they will have strong fundamentals and can handle, pass and shoot

Women D1 women are typically smaller players, and a D1 men's athlete should be able to score on, out rebound, and defend them, especially a five-on-five men's team vs women's team

But I was reminded how athletic and big/strong and skilled college women players are when I went to a gym in LA last week

Two women were practicing with a guy. One of them was as athletic, quick and skilled as any men in the gym, and probably 6-1

The other was a knock down shooter and elite, ball handler and passer and probably about 5-8

I knew if I matched up with either one of them in a game they would have thrashed me. Fortunately for me, I never got the chance

Last year at the same gym was one women playing against all men (I may have posted a pic of that game). She was probably 6 or 6-1, and dominated the game. She was the best ball handler, passer and shooter and super quick and athletic. She had trouble defending and rebounding with multiple men who were taller/longer then her but she held her own on the perimeter

But regardless of men vs women, I love the women's game.

Appreciate the measured response to what was a ridiculous post to begin with....
Now let's compare the college men to NBA players, because it would be just as useful....oh, I know, I like men's baseball better than softball because they throw overhand!! And besides, hitting a baseball is harder!!!!

Women's basketball is it's own brand, it's own game, like it, don't like it, who effing cares- the popularity, marketing and revenue has done nothing but grow, especially with exposure and commitment. And sure, let's worry about all the trans players we have all witnessed....

I remember stories of Reggie Miller making money off 2-on-2 pickup games by taunting other guys with: "Me and my sister could beat you."

Great little video here of Essence Carson, Swin Cash, and Tanisha Wright (now the Atlanta Dream's coach) talking about being a professional female athlete; I love Tanisha's response to the eternal "I could thrash these women!" nonsense.

I think one reason that I have enjoyed track and field over the years is because you get to watch concurrent men's and women's events. No need to choose. Just sit back and watch two alternating forms of excellent competition.

The athletism of both teams is awe inspiring
