At the game

So here are my complaints and observations.

1. No one at the garage checking parking passes. what a waste of paper to print out individual games.

2. Someone was sitting in my seat. and became hostile when i told them to move. No usher.

3. we turned the ball over a lot but we average 16 a game. Had 9 and 12 vs. San Jose State and Gonzaga. Part of the reason we turned the ball over so much was the playing of reserves.

4. Maul doesn't look ready to play. I noticed in the practice she wasn't shooting well from three point land. and she doesn't look up to speed as far as quickness.

5. As i said from the exhibition game onward, I really like Abigor. she played at a small division V school clled Berean Christian so S 71 never noticed her. i wanted to see her play last year but the competition was so weak it wasn't worth going. Very smooth shot and before she leaves, she will be shooting threes.

When Lola made her three the place went crazy. She is a fine defender but hadn't made a shot as of yet. Very high arch.

6. Why is Oregon suppose to be good? They were worse than us last year.

7. Lookinfg forward to the game on Friday. Hope for bigger crowd.

I don't like to be critical of our players, especially on a small sample size, but yes Gisella really appeared more than a step slow on the quickness scale. And technically she's listed as a guard. Could it be injury related or does anybody know if what we saw was her regular ability?

She's been sidelined with a foot issue. Her first practice session was this last Sunday. Even then, Charmin wasn't sure how many minutes she'd get last night. She played more than what I was expecting. Give her time, please.

Abigor looks to have an extremely high motor and is a great FT shooter. I'm excited to see her develop.

I understand Maul also had knee surgery in the past. Not blaming her, just trying to state what she looks like at this point.

Yes, she had an ACL/MCL tear at the end of her high school senior year. After being Texas high school player of the year, she played only limited minutes last year at UT, probably due to the need for continued rehab.

Agree on all your points. I really like 2, 3, 5, 33 and 35 in the rotation. Not much of a drop off and 2 and 5 drive the opponents crazy.

I saw the game on TV, but she looked increasingly frustrated after she missed shots and turned the ball over ... in her first game back from an injury just getting out on the court was a good thing. She will settle in, get more confident and be able to help this team (if not this year, than next)

High School:

Maul was the No. 38 ranked recruit by ESPN. Maul led her team to back-to-back Texas 5A state championships and lost just five games in three seasons. In the 2021-22 season, Maul led Cedar Park to a 37-0 record and averaged 25.6 points per game as well as 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.9 steals per contest. Maul's teams over her least three years had an 18-1 playoff record and 97-5 overall varsity record. Maul was named the class 5A State Championship Game MVP in leading the team to its first ever state title in 2021. Maul earned the 2021-22 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year award and was also named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Player of the Year.

Yes. She needs to be kind to herself. It takes time to come back from an injury like that. Baby steps…

Thanks for the info. I confess to not being knowledgable on players' injuries. Although it's a bad thing she was hurt, I'll take it as good news as to why she didn't look very quick. I look forward to rooting for her even more when she's at full strength!
