Another good piece from Ann Killion in the Chronicle:
Success of Cal women's basketball no fluke: 'This was always the plan
" The Cal women's basketball team is flying east this week, and it has been upgraded to a new class: national relevance.
The Bears, 16-2, are ranked No. 18 in the country and one of the surprise stories of the season. On Thursday the Bears play one of women's hoops bluebloods, No. 16 Duke; Cal, off to its best start in 12 seasons, already has two wins against top-25 teams (No. 19 Alabama and No. 21 NC State) and seven wins against teams that made last year's NCAA Tournament, including arch-rival Stanford.
"It's January; we still have a lot of work to do," head coach Charmin Smith said Tuesday. "But this was always the plan, and we've just continued to move step by step to try to execute this."
