How long do you want to ignore this user?
There are 7 seniors listed on the roster and I assume they are all graduating. However, I do not know if all 7 of them are on scholarship. I know we have 4 commits already for next year's class. My question is does Charmin have scholarships available to offer to portal transfers? If so, how many and is it safe to say whe is going to go after some bigs to play on the front line?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

We have one freshman walkon. Some think that Marta could return with an extra year. Charmin told me they were loking fr bigs in the transfer portal plus some foreign players. course that was in October so thngs coud change. we could also have some of our underclassmen transfer too. We are allowed 15 scholarships. Men have 13.

valid question-I was upset that the 2025 freshmen class is four guards.

I'm the person that stated that Marta Suarez should have an additional year of eligibility if she chooses to exercise
it.

I would speculate that 3 or 4 scholarships should be available for the transfer portal.

Thanks S71,

I did not know that the women had more scholarships than the men's team. In reviewing the roster only 15 players are listed. So if all 15 are on scholarship & Marta decides to play another year that means there are 6 available scholarships minus the 4 given to next year's 4 freshman. All in all that leaves Cal with at least two additional scholarships to hand out to potential portal transfers.

If any of the current players decide to leave there could be additional scholarships to hand out as well. If Marta stays I can see her, Abigor & Twidale in the starting lineup which would mean only two spots are open to competition. If Cal continues to play well the rest of the season and into the tournament I can see Cal being an attractive place for a forward out there who is looking for more playing time.

Anyway it plays out, Cal needs another big to rotate in at the post and a couple of big forwards to provide the depth we need to be a potentially very good team going forward. Excited about the possibilities.

You're on the right track. Fourteen of the fifteen are on scholarship. Sofia Bowes (#42) is a walk-on. Also, Claudia Langarita (6-4 post) has not played yet this season. She underwent back surgery, so her basketball future is unclear at this time.

Charmin Smith has brought in four transfers from the portal in each of the last two years. However, she has also brought in two consecutive classes of four high school recruits. Obviously, she'll have to cut back in one direction or the other or both. IMO, the transfer portal seems to have more impact on immediate performance results.

Perhaps USF, with. their 10 International players, can continue to be a "Farm team" for us...

Next year when Michelle is gone will the starting center be Abigor or one of the transfer portal players? Do you think Abigor can ever get as good as Michelle? Losing William's and Krimili's shooting prowess (assuming Marta and Lulu are still here- can they be replaced or will the Bears realistically not be as great as this year?

We have a hell of a point guard coming in from Etwanda. She was California freshman of the year, then sophomore of the year and then junior of the year. . They are defending state champs and she has already had a big year this year.

Considering Gabby's progress just within this year, I don't see any reason for her not to step in and be our primary center next year. Similar to Lulu's transformation this year.

Comparing Gabby to Michelle is hard to do because their approach to the game differs. My guess is that Gabby may never reach Michelle"s upside level, but I think she will be much more of a consistent player than Michelle is.

need a center and veteran PG.
if we have another, a defensive stopper who can defend 4 positions (guards/SF) like Noble
