The Bears are 18-3 overall and 6-2 in conference with ten games remaining. On paper we should win five of those games -- Pitt, BC, Syracuse and Miami at home and Virginia way -- lose two -- Notre Dame and Louisville away -- with three others being toss ups -- NC and Georgia Tech at home and Virginia Tech away. (This is on paper, not my predictions.) If we do win those five and just take one of the three tossups we'll finish 24-7 overall and 12-6 in the ACC. That would be terrific. My guess is we'll win two of those three toss-ups for 25-6 and 13-5. (My hope is we go 10-0 but I'm trying to be real here.) As long as we avoid upsets and do well in the ACC tourney we're going to be in good shape heading into the tourney. Pulling off an upset or two would help. I wonder what it'll take to get a four seed.

It's funny. The PAC-12, at least the last couple years, was one of the best women's basketball conferences (if not the best). But maybe because we had history with those teams and felt like we could pull off an upset over Oregon State or really anyone (except maybe Stanford or UCLA in their best years), I would look at the schedule and expect to pull out a few unexpected wins. It's weird because of the lack of that history I assume we're unlikely to pull out those upsets even though probably odds-wise it's just as likely (if not more likely because of how good we are this year, especially with the 3 as a possible equalizer). I hope I'm wrong and we go 7-3 or better!

I don't think you can call the Louisville away game an automatic "should lose." They lost at home by 30 points to NCState, a team that we handled at home. Hoping that the Louisville game isn't a repeat of the Clemson game. I still think that the long layoff (although not the deciding factor) worked a bit against us in that game.

Louisville has been playing better lately. And is better than Clemson. Won't be easy.

I was going by who I thought would be favored. All but one of Louisville's losses were to top 25 teams, the other was agains Virginia Tech which has had a good season. At home I think we'd be favored.

I understand how you were evaluating it - it makes sense. I'm just thinking that as opposed to the Notre Dame game, if we play to our capabilites maybe we get a W against Louisville. The only game that looks completely non winnable is Notre Dame. Like you say, a 7-3 stretch run would be quite good. But if things fall right, 9-1 is still a remote possiblity.

Really wish Cal could beat Louisville with Curry on that team.

Six of the ten remaining ACC games are home games for Cal. It's a factor in our favor. GO BEARS!

My concern isthat we have been playing the first game of the road trip poorly. If so we woud lose against Louisvile. And still lose against Notre Dame. I wish it were reversed. We would play Lville second.

Curry is shooting only 36% from the field and 32% on threes. Recently shot 4-17 against Va Tech. She wouldn't be starting for us.

That doesn't mean I don't want to beat her new team.

I feel the same way about Curry, especially after all that Charmin did for her. Moreover, Walz is a poacher in my mind.

Thanks, Finnish Oski, for posting this. I too would be in the group that suggests that Louisville should be in the "toss up" column. I'm also nervous about Georgia Tech now that Carnegie is back and healthy...they were undefeated until she got injured.

There has been much chatter about the need to enter the tournament no lower than a 4th seed (again, isn't it wonderful to be able to be even debate this!). I think part of that placement will be how Cal does in the ACC tournament.

The way it works: 15 of the 18 teams get in. The top four teams, by standings, get a Double Bye. Teams 5-9 get a single bye, and 10-15 start the single elimination tournament. https://theacc.com/feature/womens-basketball-tournament

So a top 4 finish in the regular season would help tremendously, both in the ACC Tournament as well as the March Madness. Let's say that Notre Dame and Duke will be 2 of the 4. Right now (partially through Sunday's games), that leaves Cal in a dogfight with NC, NC State, GT, FSU, Louisville, and VT for one of those two spots. Cal is currently 2-0 against that group, with 4 games to go.

We got this? We got this!
