Great news! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting.

And I'm guessing that #48, Chastity Rice, was a teammate of Puff?

This is amazing. I cannot believe she's not a UConn-level recruit. But if it's Syracuse and Louisville, then Cal might have a shot.

Will you be at the game? Get to see warm ups.

No-I'll be watching it on NFHS. Actually, MaxPreps has the game in San Jose while I read another reference to the game in the SF Chronicle stating that the game is one of two being played down in Southern California.

Halftime: Ontario Christian 39, Archbishop Mitty 39.

Kaleena Smith has 15 points but is in major foul trouble with three at intermission.

Cal should offer junior SG Ze'ni Patterson (#22). She has been the Monarch's best player so far. She hit a trio of clutch three-pointers that has kept her team in the game.

According to Raoul's wbbblog, we offered Tiera McCarthy of Mitty back in August 2024. I don't see Ze'ni Patterson on his list.

Note: We offered Kaleena Smith back in April 2023.

Mitty has taken the lead, 62-51, after three quarters. Kaleena Smith ties it with two free-throws, 78-78. OT Ontario Christian has hit 21-22 FTs. Overtime #2: 83-83!

Kaleena Smith takes over the game and Ontario Christian maintains their undefeated record, 96-87. Smith goes off for 50 points and helps her team overcome a 11-point fourth quarter deficit. She stole the ball from Mitty's PG multiple times and the Monarchs went ice cold on their three-point shots in the overtimes. This was one of the best high school games that I have witnessed. Kaleena was playing with 4 PFs during this second OT, too.

After scoring 50 in a game when every point mattered, I have to think the elite schools will throw tons of money at Smith. It's one thing to lay 50 on some overmatched opponent. It's quite another to come from 7 down with a minute to go in regulation, tie the game with two free throws with 2 seconds left, and then take over in the OTs.

Incredible performance.

Ontario Christian vs Archbishop Mitty | Girls Basketball | 1/10

Here's OC's box score stats. Kaleena Smith took 36 shots and made 18 for 50%. She connected on 5 treys out of 18 attempts for 28% but made an astounding 72% of her two-point field goal shots (13 out of 18). Smith is automatic from the free throw line and made 9 of 10. Her ball-handling is decent although she seems to looking for her own offense. She had 4 assists and only 3 TOs. Kaleena's speed allowed her to register 7 steals and keyed their comeback.

Mitty took both the second and third quarters. The Monarchs entered the final period up by 11 points but could not hold on for the victory. Archbishop Mitty jumped out to a 7-point lead in the 1st OT but could not hold it because of steals by Kaleena Smith.

Smith played the entire game (including 2 overtimes) but did not seem to get tired. Mitty's players all seemed to display exhaustion during the last OT. This enabled Kaleena to take over the game.

I would imagine that these two schools will meet again for the state championship. This was only McKenna Woliczko's third game back from knee surgery. She is still feeling her way along and has got knocked down in each of her games so far. Hopefully, she will return to form by the end of the season. HC Sue Phillips substituted for her about 50% of the game.

Archbishop Mitty never posts their box scores or team stats per Sue Phillip's direction.

She reminds me of Jayda Curry who had a stellar high school career in Southern California... and was a long-time Cal commit.

She was only a Bear for two years and then went off to Louisville.

I liked Jayda C. at the time although, as I recall, she was prone to volume shooting, and wasn't picked up by the W. (She apparently played one game with a Turkish Eurobasket team late last year before moving on somewhere.)

Tough for a 5'6" guard in the W, tough enough in NCAA

SFCB72-Kaleena Smith is faster, quicker than Jayda Curry. Defenders could stay with Curry, but it is difficult to defend Smith one-on-one. Ontario Christian's star can take games over on defense, too, with steals. Jayda seldom could do that...Both have long range for their size on their three-point shooting. Both are great free throw shots. Both are scorers that volume shoot so I don't know how that will play out as they rise to tougher levels of talent.

Kaleena Smith will be in Berkeley the weekend of January 30-February 1. She'll be attending the Louisville game on Sunday February 1.

Let's give her a spectacular Haas welcome! Get your tickets for the game!

Note: It's an 11 am game on Sunday. Have an early breakfast and come to Haas to support the Bears.

If Cal beats Louisville do you think that would increase the chances that Smith commits to Cal or is it still unlikely due to Cal's record and history and lack of NIL to compete?

I think a bigger factor than winning would be the overall experience of the game, especially the crowd.

Can't hear a damn thing, so can't discuss the game with one's seatmates during half-time or explain plays to kids without screaming in their ears. Far fewer giveaways than in pre-Covid days: no more magnets or player pin-ups (I'm still bothered that Michelle wasn't on a growth chart). The half-time contests and stuff are pretty good, though, especially the woman who trains agility dogs; they were great.

If I were a player, I'd be looking at how many people were there and how loud they were. Loud music would not be an issue ...
