When LG posted this this morning, I was thinking that these were kids that were invited to camp or something since a couple looked really young and small. I didn't realize who they were until I saw your post. I thought 5'4" was a realistic height for Asha and 5'6' for Breanna, but not sure now. Chen Yue does look a legit 6'7" since we know Kristine is a solid 6'4".

Having watched Thomas many years, she is about 5'4" tall and slight. Before she hurt her knee she was pretty fast but probably not as fast as Boyd. Moseley looks 5 "10" or so in the picture.

Add Ionescu and a rebounding forward to that picture, and we are ready to roll.

Yeah. I have (slowly) learned to assume that almost any published BB height, women or men, is maybe/kind of/sort of true, but never in stocking feet.

But if she truly is quick, smart, athletic and "electrifying," as various sources have reported, I can't wait to see her play for Cal.

Speaking of the class of 2019, Salesian has a legit 6"5" frosh that looks pretty good and sure "bears" watching. She fills the need for their lack of height. The rolled over an AAU team from Minnesota on Saturday at St. Marys and played the only relatively close game that St Marys had in the tournament. They might have a really good team this year with the addition of that frosh in the lineup.

As an aside that team from Minnesota sure got a wake up call about California basketball. They got rolled by Salesian, totally destroyed by St. Marys and finally just ecked out a one point win against Vanden. I try to tell people that teams that play with no play clock have just are not used to the intensity and speed of the game as it is played here. They thought they were pretty good before they met these California teams.

While it can be considered a general measure, height doesn't always translate to basketball efficiency. The real measure should be the level of a players shoulders and the length of their arms. That would determine reach. The the level of the top of their head isn't that relevant. I seldom see players using the top of their heads to either shoot the ball or block shots.

This happens at the Jamboree too. West coast teams play fast.

A 6'5" frosh at Salesian? I am salivating! Bobbk also mentioned a 6'5"-er for JBS that Stanford and Cal have looked at, I believe she's 2018.

I cannot underemphasize how fortunate we were to land Kristine Anigwe. So it's nice to hear of some bigs coming down the pipeline for whom we might have a bit more of a "homecourt advantage." Besides the c/o '13, it seems most of the elite prospects out of NorCal for the past few years have been guards and wings.

Chen has some meat on her in addition to her height. If she possesses the skills and hoops IQ attributed to her, she will be a real handful in the paint.

So I had a dream about Chen Yue the other night...

LOL!

...and in it, she had 19 & 9 in her exhibition debut for Cal.

I saw her play a few times and really liked the looks of her. She runs the floor pretty well and really protects the paint. Doesn't look like a frosh post at all. Usually when they are that tall they don't move that well. As a frosh she might grow some more and then she really would be scary.

Lots of Salesian players play AAU ball for Cal Ballaz, Calstars, or Orinda Magic. After some sleuthing I'm guessing she is Angel Jackson (6-5) playing for Orinda Magic and coached by Steve Pezzola, who is also currently Salesian's head coach. http://www.orindamagic.org/3.html

Chen Yue looks about half as tall as the Campanile. I think we are in business.

Chen Yue is maybe 40% as tall as the Campanile! The other girls look so tiny...GO BEARS!

So can we use the Isosceles triangle formulas to get Chen's actual height 8-)?

Anigwe, Chen, Davidson and Range: Quadruple Towers! I love it. CalGals shall lead the Pac-12 in rebounding once again.

The last reports I read on Chen Yue indicated she was athletic with a developing back-to-the-basket game. Chen and Kristine could be devastating in the post at both ends of the floor.

Wow, is Chen Yue seriously tall or what?

I just hope coach is more focused on coaching this class than being their best friends.

Because being a good coach and having good relationships with your players are mutually-exclusive, right?

You know but won't admit she's different than the great coaches. Great coaches aren't your friend. They're authority figures or mentors. Wonder if Geno or Tara care about making friends out of players they coach. Haven't heard Coach K or Izzo doing so.

I doubt any of them are but that's the Cal staff's style. It's also Steve Kerr's style with the Warriors. They have probably one of the most player-friendly environments the NBA's ever seen. They also happened to have one of the best records of all-time and won the most recent NBA championship with that style.

They got to a final four with that style and have brought in some great recruiting classes with that style.

Time will tell as Lindsay's legacy continues to be built at Cal.

A player friendly environment can be good, but you have to be able to get the players to do what is needed for them to improve. It's easy to be a good friend, but much harder to be a good coach.

Now that she has players that she recruited, she may be able to get a better handle on this.

I think the player climate has also changed and it may be that players don't accept tough criticism like they used to.
