The two games this weekend are as consequential as you can get. Will be setting the pace at the beginning of the conference season. Playing against two major rivals from whom we need to separate in order to be in top tier status in the league. Going up against coaches who have recently been out-recruiting us. On our home floor.

Amen. Every conference season gives me feelings of trepidation and self-doubt about our Cal Bears. Gottlieb fails to generate any confidence in me for the present day or the future of the program. IMO-this is the weakest
Cal defensive team in memory. This team lacks footspeed to get out on three point shooters or to stay with opponents on drives to the basket. They also get beat up and down the court on fastbreaks.

***Defense wins championships.*** The Bears will have to outscore their opponents in
offensive shootouts to win Pac 12 games. Harvard, for example, only averaged 67.2 ppg but scored 85 vs Cal
in Berkeley. USC & UCLA are hardly unbeatable but then again neither is Cal in 2018-19. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that our shots are falling...Happy New Year! GO BEARS!

RealTimeRPI Women's Basjetball is the closest and isn't bad. Sagarin hasn't done 2018-2019. All of these get better as more games are played.

That's a good one. Our ranking is more realistic.

I think we will finish better than this rating service is predicting. It shows us going 9-9 in future conference games and finishing fifth. If that were to come to be, our league finishes during the four Anigwe years would be 10th, 7th, 5th and 5th. I have to think that is not going to happen. But this weekend is a big one.

Anigwe has started each season strong then seemed to get frustrated and worn down. I was hoping this senior year that would not happen and would cap off an amazing career. The last two games were bad signs though. Some some bad body language and starting to miss the bunnies.

I think they are actually projecting 8-10 and 6th place.

Quite a contrast between LG's first 4 years and last 4 years. The conference has definitely gotten stronger no doubt. Then there is Boyle's recruits vs LG's recruits. But what is strange to me is when we went from 13-5 to 4-14 when Anigwe, Thomas, Mosley and Chen came in; Green, Cowling, Davidson and Range had more experience (and Range played twice the minutes as she was healthy) and we lost Boyd, Gray and Hartman to graduation. Doesn't make any sense on paper.

I have always thought that the two things that really left us in bad shape were the initial limitations of Anigwe in doing nothing but putting up shots when double-teamed in the post, and the limitations of Green as a perimeter player who fell in love with putting up three point shots that usually had no chance. I kept waiting for LG to do something more creative in using those two talents, and it just didn't happen. Although this year's offensive system is a step forward for Anigwe.

We had only 2 guards, a soph and a freshie. That explains it all to me.

One of the big disappointments was the dismissal of Mercedes Jefflo. Really cut our guard depth. And the leaving of mid year by Ben Hind (may have the name wrong).

Add the strange disappearance of Cavanaugh. Green's disappearance that year (and leaving the next year) also hurt.
