I'm hoping someone with knowledge of this situation can clarify. Mia,(Miramonte, '21) took an unofficial visit to Oregon a year ago. It peaked my interest but have learned next to nothing about her, other than a few very impressive box scores and honors received. None of the player ranking sites have her listed - in the top 100 or even lower. Just seems a little strange that someone with those accolades is so far off the radar.

Hope all is OK with her. Thanks.

Mia Mastrov plays at Miramonte, so I'm fairly familiar with her game.

Though I'm not involved with the Cal Stars, all reports indicate she had a great EYBL season coming off the bench for the top Cal Stars' team -- so she's not off the radar for college coaches. Further evidence of that has been the steady parade of college coaches at our open gyms.

Mastrov is 5-11, long, left-handed, with excellent footwork in the paint and a solid three-point stroke. She can defend at a high level given her quickness, length and size.

She is definitely a Power 5 player and certainly the best player at Miramonte, and among the best in the East Bay. (Her brother, by the way, is an excellent football player.)

She did have some very good games just breezing through some EYBL stats.

I would assume she would take the UO offer if she received it, but that is a huge "if." Given their recent embarrassment of riches at the guard position in the 2019-21 classes.

Thanks for the replies. I enjoy visiting here frequently but this is my first post. We (Oregon) used to have an active board (educk) but it was sold to some idiot site called 247, all pay, and hardly ever mentions wbb.

Welcome ... and a lot of folks here follow Oregon out of envy, since Sabrina grew up about 15 miles from Cal.

panamaslim,

Welcome to the board.

I have to say I'm not a fan of the ducks MBB team and coach (nor football team), but I don't have any animosity toward the oregon WBB team.

I was really impressed with their team last year, and think they will easily be the pac12 champs, and probably the national champs.

I would be interested in your thoughts about this year's team, and some comments about some specific players.

Good luck to you (except when you play cal)

HoopDreams:

I am optimistic about our chances of returning to the Final Four, especially since the regionals are again in Portland this year. But I do have real concerns about winning it all for the PAC-12. That would be so terrific - how long has it been!?

My big question is overall team toughness, that "killer instinct." God bless Ruthy Heberd, her stats are amazing, but during crunch time in big games her rebounding tends to go south. In fact, as a team I'm not sure we got even 50% of loose balls when it counted last year. Toughness. If it weren't for Sabrina's surgical-like passes into Ruthy, not sure where we would be. She does have great hands though.

Everyone up here is hoping Sedona Prince, the 6-7 highly-regarded Texas transfer, will win her waiver to play this season. That would certainly help inside as she is very versatile, inside AND outside.

Perhaps the biggest loss, though, is 6-4 Berlin freshman Nyara Sabally having to miss her second season with another knee injury. Some say she is better than sister Satou, which is a little hard to believe. Her main strengths were to be crashing the boards as well as open floor speed.

As far as replacing PG Maite Cazorla, the surprising transfer of USC's Minyon Moore should help ease the pain. Her specialty is defense, something the Ducks have lacked. She may not be starting, however, as incoming Aussie Jazmin Shelley is already getting raves. Rookie Holly Winterburn from London is also expected to see her share of minutes.

In other words, the team will have depth it hasn't had for awhile.

As for winning the title? I guess when you have Ionescu, anything is within reach. Sorry for the rambling.

Good luck to the Bears. Was never a fan of Gottlieb. Things will only get better, just as they did here when that fiasco of a coach Westhead was replaced.

If Minyon Moore doesn't start, "shocked" will be well short of my feelings.
