Worst quarter (11-8) of the season-Cal only made five layups out of 19 shot attempts. Most shots were not even close. Jaelyn Brown is really forceing up long shots from outside?

Excellent defense is first half! First BU three pointer (1-7) made with 2+ minutes left...The Terriers were scoring against Sara Anastasieska (#2 Katie Nelson) & posting up 5-5 Leilani McIntosh (#14 Sydney Johnson).

Cal is only outrebounding Boston University 23-18 at intermission. Bear's ballhandling has been good with only four turnovers at half. Jazlyn Green gave Cal a lift to start the second quarter with two treys. Bears has missed 10 layups already.

Very pleased with the defensive effort so far. Giving up only 8 points in 13 minutes is... not bad.

Cal playing better on offense in the second quarter.

Cal 35-22 at half.

I have to admit- I thought we did not have a strong Fr. class this year- especially compared to other teams. I was wrong. There is so much to be excited for. Green can shoot and she is NOT afraid to do it. Crocker and McIntosh attack and run point like seasoned players. Schipholt will be a consistent player in the rotation all 4 years. Happy with what I see.

At half, scoring is very spread out, with 8 of 9 players in the scoring column, and no one with more than 6 points.

Styles with 5 rebs. McIntosh with 3 assists.

BU shooting 27%.

Lead down to 4. Outscored by 9 in the 3rd quarter. They are out hustling us. This usually doesn't happen.

13-2 run away by the Terriers late in the 3rd quarter. It's a four point ball game. Bears get clutch three again from Jazlyn Green to push lead back to 49-40. BU won the third period, 18-14. Nobody can shoot from the outside for Cal except JG.

Terriers outplaying Bears in fourth quarter, 11-9, with 5 minutes left. Sara A cannot stay with #2. Reserve post Chiara Tibbits #5 has hit 4-5 from the free throw line over CJ West. Cal held on and captured final period, 24-22. Boston University did, however, outscore Cal in the 2nd half, 40-38.

The Terriers two stars were their junior PG Katie Nelson and frosh SG Sydney Johnson with 14 & 19 points, respectively. The Bear's two best players of the game were Alayshia Styles & Jazlyn Green. Styles led the team in rebounding with 10 and tallied 11 points. She hit a couple of free throw line jump shots that were needed. Green was the only consistant outside threat with 3-6 (50%) on treys and ended up w/ 10 points. She also led the team with two steals.

If Cal plays a game like this afternoon against Kentucky, Stanford, Oregon or three other undefeated Pac 12 teams (UCLA, Oregon State & Arizona), the results will not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Bears missed half of their layups (inside shots) 18-36 according to the statbroadcast above. Jaylen Brown did not hit a basket from outside of three or four feet.

Cal has now been victorious six games in a row! GO BEARS!

Another 3 by Green brings the lead back to 9. Little more breathing room! 49-40 Cal

70-59 Cal with 27 seconds left. Looks like we are going to 6-2. Congrats Bears!

Palms of victory. Incredibly balanced scoring - but Cal didn't shoot very well for the game. So, room to grow....

The bad news is that we played poorly overall. The good news is that we still got a W and maybe got this out of our system before the schedule gets a lot tougher. I will add that the Bears stayed poised throughout and never looked in any real danger.

Back from the game.

1. Worst shooting of the year. No one could make anything and that included free throws. Defense was pretty good the first half but abysmal the third period. The coach went to a full court press. Partly for turnmovers but partly to get the adrenaline flowing. We were much more active even if they broke the press. One thing we did do better was not commit turnovers. We only had seven.

2. Ref's pretty much let them play till the last two minutes. Then they were calling everything. Boston made a a really bad error when with 2 plus minutes left they let us run 30 seconds off the clock . At that point I felt they liked the score but didn't want it to grow. But you have no chance of winning if you don't foul. The they started fouling with just over a little more than a minute. Go figure.

3. Not a very good crowd. Small as usual.

4. They may have been rusty as they may not have practiced much this week. It is quiet week Next week is finals.

I don't understand how after 4 years of coaching CJ still puts her bunnies so high off the glass that the angle is way steeper than necessary resulting in so many misses. For a player who shoots most of her shots directly under the basket and usually has size, strength, height advantage, often in space, and she still doesn't seem to aim her bank shot lower at the box on the backboard. This seems so correctable.

First half, shooting woes. Only Jazlen looked like she could hit a shot. Also every rebound seemed to bounce to BC.

Second half, defensive woes. People were blowing by us and the BC point guard came close to a triple double.

Good to win when we're not at our best.

I agree with Charmin. The team's energy at the start of the game was lackluster. You could ell the Bears were off their game. The rim wasn't good to them. Chen is trying hard, and her improvement is noticeable. She hasn't played very much during her first three years. When BU was only down by 4 points, I am saying to myself, oh no, not another Harvard outcome! Is there something about my home State of Mass.....Just when it looked like Cal would be on their way to a victory, B.U. players would scrap and score!! If Cal had made more foul shots they would have won by 20 points. All in all, I am so pleased to see Charmin's spirit, and the way she motivates the players. When there is a time out she is on the floor swinging her arms gesturing to the players to come to the sideline quickly! She also talks to the Refs, and is always engaged, while urging the players to go for it! I am sure the freshman are thrilled to be playing so much. Love this team.....GO BEARS!!!

Delighted to watch Styles achieve her first double-double, plus a steal, with one 1 foul and 1 TO in 28 minutes. I think she'll be a beast next season--and maybe sooner than that.

I thought Charmin telling the team that you don't often get a "do over" (referring the the Harvard game) was good. The players handled the comeback much better.
