2024 Softball Roster - California Golden Bears Athletics (calbears.com)

Sixteen players return (five pitchers) from last season. The roster confirms the loss of Kacey Zobac and the return of Alexis Bishop. The freshmen class of 2023 is not included. I believe they'll number six so the team would total 22 players. Oh yes- the Bears will have one incoming transfer, soph Ryann Orange, a pitcher/DP/ RF so the roster will be 23. Kaylee Pond transferred in 2023 from Iowa State but missed her R-SO season due to injury. She is listed as a R-JR for 2024.

Cal had 25 players last year but Makena Smith graduated and eight other seniors-to-be transferred out of the program: Kacey Zobac, Sona Halajian, Kennedy Thomas, D'Asha Saiki, Sophie Medellin, Nicole Hammoude, Aleia Agbayani & Candace Yingling.

Did I miss anyone? I was hoping for another transfer or two...GO BEARS!

Perhaps the frosh will fix the depth concern.

Still disappointed in the 8 transfer outs, with a few impact players, and certainly all veterans

I think like WBB, softball is on the rise

Hopefully the Bears will be stronger next season with the incoming talent, and returnees stepping up

Something had to give and frankly, I am only surprised by one of the transfers. All of the others (IMO) make sense.

Six recruits and one transfer equals lucky number seven. The catcher, Herrera, has decommitted. Does Cal have another player that I don't know about, CF?

Someone posted here that Herrera decommitted and is now going to Memphis.

From my understanding, this is actually the reverse order of events. Herrera was originally going to Memphis before signing with Cal.

To reiterate, Alyssa Herrera ORIGINALLY was a Memphis commit. The signing story, her own recruits page and travel ball page shows she is COMMITTED to Cal.

Who knows if something changed... but the entire confusion was due to someone finding an OLD article that she committed to Memphis. Hope that helps!

I don't see any incoming frosh replacing the production of Smith or Zobac but they might, in aggregate, offset the other departures, especially if Bishop and Pond return from injury and contribute offensively. Our greatest need, IMO, continues to be improvement in the field and in the circle.

I agree but collectively, I think it will be a pretty balanced lineup. Zobac and Smith has incredible seasons (and careers!). I think against Orange helps quite a bit…

As does the state player of the year, in the circle.

I went on University of Memphis website and looked for any news regarding her commitment to Memphis from July 2022 when they got a new softball coach to may 23. It looks like they got 6 new players freshman for incoming class and one player who played this past season, i believe a transfer, Berner. where she is going if not on Cal roster, I don't know, but there is nothing about her signing with memphis. maybe she committed to the old coach and changed after a new coach was hired in July 22. anyway, you can check it out S71.

My guess they are waiting for school to start & students are actually enrolled. There has been instances of transfers or frosh changing their mind or perhaps some transfers classes were not acceptable by Berkeley.

Are you talking about Alissa Herrera? Is so, I just umped her game and she didn't mention anything about de-committing.. We talked about Cal and how I did Queroga, the other catcher's game a month ago.

So Brandon Telesco, our new hitting coach has a travel ball team-Batbuster Telesco from Arizona. The team is at the Corona Angels/TCS Tournament at the BLD Chino Hills which I'm working. It turns out, my one and only verbal exchange with a coach turns out be him. lol. If you're near Chino hills, he play at 8AM on the Tiger Field. The team is 1-2 in a double elimination format. I believe if he loses, the team is done for the weekend but I believe his team will win.

It looks his team plays Athletics Jendro who is the first seed. However, having seen both teams 2x, I believe his team should debeat Jendro. Perhaps y'all can stop by and watch some good softball in your Cal gear.

One more thing, LMU Coaches were there and when I asked about our new pitching coach, they said O'Tool is a great hire.

Based upon the picture above, Sophia Everett appears to be a left-handed hitter. Excellent power (9 homers) exhibited for her sophomore season. Evidently-she is one of the few three sport varsity athletes of the modern era. It was commonplace in my day in the sixties...GO BEARS!
