Mika Lee guns down a runner trying to score in the 1st.

Absolute perfect throw home. 0-0 after 1

Pond with her own ESPN web gem. Climbs the fence in foul territory to snag a high hit ball. The outfielders came to play today. Still 0-0.

Are they in the ACC softball tourney? If not, how many wins do they need this weekend?

Thx

ACC tournament is next week.

Cal automatically moves from 9th to 8th (out of 15 teams) by winning 2 games this week.

Cal takes a 2-0 lead on a hard hit single up the middle by Lagi.

And now Pond delivers with another 2rbi double. 4-0 in the 3rd. Go Bears!

Thanks so only the top 8 make it?

Also. is this the 1st game the two coaches have switched bases? Missed all of last weekend

Easily one of the best all around games I've seen us play lately. Defense really shined today as you've noted!

Keep the foot on the gas. Sweep this weekend and go into the post season on a nice winning streak.

Maybe that Virginia Tech win (shutout!!) last Sunday has sparked a resurgence in these Bears heading into the postseason.

you missed my question earlier i think - is this the 1st game Coach Spencer has moved over to 1st?

california golden bears 7
syracuse orange 0

4 KEYS to victory:

1) seniors anna reimers & annabel teperson pitching ahead in the count with early strikes
2) DEFENSE: mika lee throwing out a runner from center field with a laser strike to home plate, mia phillips with the filthy dive plus the uncontrollable kaylee pond espn play of the day
3) HOMERUNS: dangerous tianna bell & +1 athletic mika lee going yard

4) everybody's favorite head coach at 1st base instead of 3rd, only 2 runners thrown out on the bases today which for the bears is actually a gameday improvement

cal is a softball school (33-18)#

It looked like she was at 1B the entire game. I haven't seen that before. I've seen stints where the assistant coaches have spent time on 3B.

I enjoyed the commentators noting the Syracuse coach complained about her trip out to Stanford. They quickly stated "Coach Spencer said this was just part of being a professional" (on the east coast trip).

I got a good laugh out of that.

Why do they complain? They go once! Cal & Furds have to go to the east coast 4-5 times each season.

Game Update!!

Due to anticipated weather this weekend, we will play a doubleheader today with the first game scheduled for 11:30 a.m. PT.

Go Bears!!!

I was attempting to locate the game at 10 am when I noticed the DH today at 11:30 am & 2:30 pm. I like it. Also, Cal fans don't have to watch a 9 am game tomorrow. GO BEARS!

De Nava doesn't possess the velocity that I thought that she had. She is only throwing rise balls in the 57-59 mph range. No wonder that she has yielded 20 HRs already. Miranda seldom change speeds, either. I've seen her throw a curve and a screwball, but she doesn't use those often.

Syracuse has hit a couple to the CF fence that Mika Lee has caught but I have a feeling that the Orange are going "yard" soon. Angie Ramos just hit a HR foul by ten feet to left field in the second inning. De Nava is also walking a batter every inning, too.

In the T4th, Cal had two on via walks and made Quiroga sac bunt into an out. Acacia Anders then took strike three (after hitting into a bases loaded DP her las time up). Only two Bears have hits in this game with both Tianna Bell and Mike Lee have two each.

DeNava pitched a really efficient 2nd half of the game in 50 DEGREE weather and shut down the Cuse. Bears win 9-0

Gotta give props to both pitchers in this 2nd game -- thats alot of pitches

De Nava pitched her best and that's all anyone can ask of her.

Cal outlasted Syracuse in the nitecap of the DH to triumph 4-2 in 11 innings. Lagi Quiroga blasted a long HR to RCF for the difference. I hope that Annabel Teperson will be ok to pitch again in the ACC Tournament. I believe that her pitch count exceeded 150 pitches. Bears made many great defensive plays as well as a half dozen terrible ones. They need to clean-it-up (5 errors) for the postseason. Cal turned a triple play today! GO BEARS!

How about saying that the Bears gave up only 2 runs in 24 innings on the road!! Two shutouts!!

My two favorite bears (Val and Kristina) of all time registered pitches in the 59-61 mph range. I'd argue Thor is one of the best Golden Bears of all time and I never remember her registering a pitch over 63mph.

But my god…that riseball.

1st game
california golden bears 9
syracuse orange 0

2nd game (11 innings)
california golden bears 4
syracuse orange 2

the bears sweep today's doubleheader in upstate new york kinda like drama queens or something, don't cry for me argentina, these FUN bears truly love one another & their home run trot celebrations (check out lagi quiroga's celebration of life) are ****** EPIC

the 35-18 team is most likely staying on the east coast with the acc tournament in massachusetts starting wednesday with an opening round battle vs them georgia tech yellowjacks

I hope that the Bears stay on the east coast for the Wednesday opener vs Ga Tech at 8 am PST. Cal would only have Monday, Cinco de Mayo, at home and have to return on Tuesday to prepare for the breakfast time game on May 7th. If the Bears win, they face the worst matchup possible, #1 seed Florida State. I believe that the 35-7 run differential was the most lopsided massacre that Cal softball has ever suffered at home during the 25 years that I have been following the sport.

The entire ACC Tournament is televised on the ACC Network. I have my dvr set for the 8 am game tomorrow vs Ga Tech. I trade the stock market every morning so I'm happy that I can watch it later in the day. GO BEARS!
