I figured there was more to the story when Spencer resigned. This explains a lot. If this incident along with the women's soccer coach McGuire's behavior was reported to Jay and Jenny, I don't know how they could survive keeping their jobs.

McGuire has been at Cal a long time. Have past players had similar complaints?

Cal had frosh star pitchers enter the program for the 2024 & 2025 seasons and depart after one season of softball. Some other pitchers were on the team and stayed longer than a single season. I don't want to use any names, but softball fans can probably speculate as to potential identities of the pitcher.

Ugh. If it's the fan I think it is, I'm mortified. Chelsea Spencer let down a lot of people close to the program who were so excited about the opportunity for her to take over for Ninemire. What a story that could have been…and what an opportunity she squandered. I'm so disappointed in her and in the department.

oc, mea culpa, my source that randi r & her "little league" dad were "prima donnas" wuz associate cal athletic director gordon byrne who is the department's liaison to the softball program...my apologies for repeating here inaccurate information

yeah byrne is the same guy who also apparently wuz the 1st reporting re: the sexual relationships & did not at the end of the stop the abuse, in fact the young lady wuz cut from the softball program

he's clearly just a bad ******* human being just like the enabler jennifer simon-o'neil who literally attends every softball game as a fan as part of her $500,000 annual salary so her arguing she didn't know about this relationship is just more spinning from a worthless bureaucrat that honestly should be in prison

in attending a couple of games & in speaking with multiple bearents including the dads of miranda & miss orange, we all talked about the bizarro base running by the team that season, the bears literally had 150+ players thrown out running the bases with spencer as the 3rd base coach often by 10 feet or more (not even close calls) which wuz a clear red flag that the head coach wuz having mental issues imo

the lawsuits are mounting up against the women's sports teams that will eventually require costly legal & settlement dollars, chancellor lyons has shown no proclivity to protect our student athletes from these unsafe situations & also losing programs

cal softball is decimaged, let's be real here, there's mid major talent at best and it's hard to imagine anything other than a bottom of the acc standing regardless of a new stadium or not...and singleton's decision to delete the stats of the multiple players that transferred out after playing for him last season is both petty and indicative of someone who probably isn't qualified or mature enough to be a championship building head coach

and jenny overpaid (just like her contract extensions with charmin smith) as usual for singleton relative to his market value, there's no accountability or financial discipline with jay & jenny

I think it's important we speak truths here and not peddle in misinformation.

The stats issue being referred to here was an issue with an integration with Sidearm; it has nothing to do with Singleton. A person from the media department did mention this was a known error for the players who had left when I reached out to inform them. I have the email from the department and am happy to share that content to clear anyone's name. Insinuating the coach was doing this in malice is incorrect. I'd also point out the transfer class was ranked in the top 25 for all of college softball.

The media department is of course incompetent. That's another issue. It's pathetic these people know of an issue (ie the stats) and have done nothing to solve it!

Also… if anyone wants a good laugh, this new Strawberry Creek media department (or whatever the hell we want to call it) was announced months ago, and they still don't have the correct points of contact listed online. Another reason Jenny and Jay should be canned (alongside the handling of multiple controversies). How are you going to list points of contact for departments that were laid off months ago?! It's crazy to me.

So the coach coerced a player to have a relationship with her. How old was the player? Is the player gay? If admin knew about this and didn't do anything about it, wow, $$$$ flying out! There's got to be more to it than we know. How can Lyons not do anything about it if he knew what was going on?

hate red, lyons is longtime buddies with jay & jenny, he's sat on several bureaucratic committees with them including the berkeley renaming/branding according to a builder of berkeley who is reevaluating their support of the university due to the alleged abuses involving multiple female student athletes in multiple different sports

Probably because he was too busy recruiting a top-25 transfer class? Why would he post about an issue with a statistics vendor? That makes zero sense.

He inherited a roster that wasn't his, had tough conversations with players he didn't think fit his vision for the future of the program, and recruited players he believed would lead him to a tournament team. He's a former national champion. That's what people of his caliber do.

Some players transferred because he explained they'd be a better fit elsewhere. I applaud him. That's leadership.

cf, so ur saying this world class "coach of his pedigree" whose never been a head coach & never wuz a berkeley grad whose team wuz 15-37 (5-19 in the acc) in his 1st season evah ran off almost a third of the young ladies (several of them that he actually recruited to berkeley) thru these "tough conversations" thereby depriving them of berkeley educations which will negatively affect them the rest of their lives couldn't be bothered to take 90 seconds to publicly share a vendor issue that reflects his ethics/character because he's "building" a program that could potentially have an even worser record this upcoming season because he didn't hire the right pitching coach (team era of 7.11 last season)??
