Just like trumpers don't want to play at Cal…
Critically thinking kids with a 4.2 who also play sports and are attracted to Berkeley don't want to play for a trumper.

It's obviously very relevant, but this site relies on generating positivity about Cal football to get subscribers.

I don't envy anyone tasked with that !

How can anyone possibly say that in the NIL era? EVERYTHING is politics. Period.

I wanna say "no", but maybe you can elaborate. I'm assuming you mean that there is a political dynamic in most things that we do (as opposed to "Dem vs GOP" politics).

They say it because they share his political beliefs and don't like seeing the negative reactions to it. They were expecting to be universally praised for this hire.

What's hilarious is we only know the politics of this FOOTBALL COACH because he went out of his way to publicize them. He inserted his politics into his job, not anyone else. Think of all the coaches out there and how many you know their political beliefs. Not many.
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

Thanks for reading my sig! Please consider copying or adapting it and using it on all of your posts too. Go Bears!

Cal is supposed to be a place where people from all ideologies, religious beliefs and political affiliations can come together and have discussions. We then hope to educate students enough to make their own choices on the matter. It is Cal's job to expose people to all sides of the issue, not indoctrinate them with one particular vision of the matter. If you are a 4.2 GPA student attracted to Cal for its "liberal history" but refuse to play for a Trump supporter then you have missed the point. The idea that Cal ONLY supports ONE VIEW on things is a misconception we should fight rather than embrace.

Now, if he uses his position of authority to force his opinions on others or rewards players with playing time based on their ideologies we have a problem. That goes for any coach regardless of political affiliation. But the fact he supports Trump is 100% irrelevant to whether or not he will be a good Offensive Coordinator here.

There are plenty of legitimate red flags that you can point out such as a rough history at Auburn, poor recruiting, or being seen as abrasive to work with by recruits. Frankly bringing up his political affiliation as a main argument for or against his hiring weakens your argument. That is doubly true at a school with the free speech history that Cal is proud to be associated with.

Looks like head in the sand mentality is that kids with a 4.2 gpa are critical thinkers and therefore do not play for Trumpers as a critical thinker cannot possibly condone Trump views…this is OT content and this is all I will say…

How do you know there are no "Trumpers" - AKA: "Republicans" or "conservatives" - playing for Cal right now? Aaron Rodgers is a "Trumper". And I'm sure there are many more. The scholly limit is what? 135 (changes to 105 next year)? So ALL of them are progressives, or Democrats? I seriously doubt it.

I don't think the typical Trumper takes ayuhyasca or goes to Egypt for inspiration. He's 100% NorCal, but, yeah, if you told me most of the team voted for trump it wouldn't surprise me. People's pigeonholing characterizations of voters are just lame cliches

Probably Dykes, and Spavital, and Bloesch, and Gilbert, and many of our Texas recruits are more "typical Trumpers", given their long ties to Texas' Ultra conservative political culture, and obvious comfort with the Texas cultural environment. We never asked them about their political leanings, or for their political opinions. And you/we never felt compelled to "research" them. So I guess it's a "don't ask, don't tell" standard of acceptance, is that it?

Rodgers seems like a more generalized "anti-establishment" guy than a conservative. Then again, plenty of these types probably voted for Trump this time around.

Guess you could say the same thing about folks from rural Oregon and Washington. Hint, hint. Basically the culture under Wilcox re: players is be interested in politics, but don't judge others. There a couple thigs on the internet about it you can hunt down. The coaches generally just stick to coaching. The HC always sets the culture, and the assistants get in line, or leave.

The purpose is supposed to be education and not indoctrination but unfortunately, I don't think that's happening in many elite universities including Cal. These schools supposedly support diversity, equity, and inclusion except when it comes to ideas, beliefs, and values.
