How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's the 25th anniversary of 9/11 today and I'm shocked at how little mention of it there's been in recent days. I'm seeing some headlines today but it's been crickets the last week or two.

We may have mostly forgotten, but the events of that morning are permanently etched into my brain.

It might be the news you consume has forgotten but the world hasn't. Hella news and stories in the last few weeks.

Immense sadness amongst a group of close friends regarding the loss of a good friend on that horrible day. Couldn't forget that day even if we wanted to.

The 9/11 anniversary has been all over social media the last couple of weeks leading up to today.
Joe Biden pardoned his son, Anthony Fauci, Gen Milley, Schiff, and the J6 Unselect Committee. The mods all voted for Kamala. They had no choice after the Biden coup. The people who shot Trump and Charlie Kirk probably vote Democrat too. The people who were obsessed with Russia hoax, vax status of others, J6, and the Epstein list are ignorant fools. Building genocide could have been prevented. Queers for Palestine. Trans rights. No Kings. Hamas not Hummus. Cousin love. Allahu Akbar.

I lost a couple of friends that tragic day.

I wound up in a funk for the next 6-months spending much of my mornings at a local Starbucks reading a copy of the NY Times to learn of everyone's stories and pain.

One of my good friends in NYC was United flight attendant Debi Jacobs Welsh who was onboard Flight 93.
She was a career flight attendant with a huge love for travel and exotic places.
She was working in first class that day.

She lived in Greenwich Village and would roller blade her way down to my apartment complex which can be seen along the water in the center of the final picture above. I lived in an apartment at Gateway Plaza from '84 to '93 and would literally walk across the street (Westside Highway) to go to work every day.

There were 40 passengers and crew on this flight that "fought" back with Todd Beamer's infamous Let's Roll!

They are all being honored at Gettysburg today.
A screening of the film United 93 takes place at the Majestic Theater there later today.

Cal's Mark Bingham was also on this flight leading the charge to regain control of the cockpit.
A Los Gatos High alum, he is seen in the photo below with the ball wearing a headband.
He was a member of the 1991 National Championship Team.

Mark is who I was referring to. He was our fraternity brother who was a well loved and important member of our fraternity, and who taught us tolerance and fearlessness. We had the good fortune of seeing Mark and his partner 2 to 3 weeks before 9/11at a gathering of the guys and their families. We are all close and still hang out at least a couple of times a year, and on this day we all get online and raise a glass to the young g man who gave us so much and was doing great things for his community. He is sorely missed.

Random memories…
  • Watching the news … there was general confusion about how a plane could crash into a high rise building on such a clear day
  • Then the 2nd plane on live tv while we were all watching…this isn't an accident
  • The plane hit the pentagon and my best friend called me: "We are under attack."
  • A friend was in meetings in Manhattan and saw jumper's bodies coming down. Seeing that on TV and just being deeply saddened at the horror those people faced.
  • Flight 93 - Straight. Up. Heroes.
  • New Yorkers lined up around city blocks to give blood.
  • Some number of years later being a chaperone for my 8th grader's middle school trip to DC. We were standing in a museum with a big 9/11 exhibit - part of the tower antennae - and realized these kids weren't born yet when it happened after they asked innocent questions like "What's 9/11?" We adults did a round robin explanation of where we were and what we experienced. I choked back tears on my turn. So did others. The kids heard the words but couldn't really understand. "History" is an abstraction to those who didn't experience it.

Still remember waking up, turning on the TV and seeing the 1st tower on fire and wondering what the hell is going on? Went to take a shower and as I returned to my bedroom saw the second plane impact the second tower. Still haunted by the pictures of people on all fours looking out the edge of the holes in the buildings who survived the initial impacts. Also haunted by the TV broadcasts that attempted to shield the viewers from those who made the wrenching decisions to jump from the buildings rather than suffer the fires. Still get emotional to this day.

When I say that the perpetrators of the war on terror and the Iraq War never paid the price for their hubris, this is what I'm talking about. These people should not be writing articles in major newspapers - they should be shunned from society for lying us into a war based on lies and propaganda.
