Sorry about the confusion.

I often forget how little those who attend Cal actually know about Berkeley. The Thousand Oaks District in the northeast corner of Berkeley is the traditional heart of Republican power which controlled city hall for most of its history, until the early eighties.

My point was, most folks were watching the game, even Ann's fictional Real Americans.

I live in T.O., it's not right wing compared to the South, but it's pretty damned conservative. Read the acorn's reader opinion page, lots, a knuckle draggers.

I grew up in the claremont and it was as conservative as the TO but conservative then is a little different than conservative now. But a lot of folks left when Berkeley started integrating the elementary schools. Fortunately all the hip parents stayed. As far as Coulters article, what does an alcoholic anorexic know about soccer?

Ann Coulter hated Berkeley long before she latched onto the World Cup as an "issue."

Thanks for "getting it". That anyone would support this attention whore by buying her trashy books is beyond me. Any reference to her is a waste of time.

I am not fond of her self-promotion and hateful antics, but the article was a satire. Says something, however, that so many liberals believed it to be true. Not sure whether it reflects more poorly on Ann Coulter or liberals.

I'd be interested in some actual data. Thousand Oaks was Republican into the early 1970s, but changed after that. It has become "conservative" in Berkeley elections, but that's a far cry from being Republican. I know that in 1972, McGovern carried Berkeley something like 50,000 to 12,000 over Nixon, and I don't think Nixon carried a single precinct. I'd be interested in seeing data to the contrary.

As for Ann Coulter, who *cares* what she thinks?

The article was actually sadly plausible, and the specific info about the pilot made it seem real, but this gave it away:
Quote:

"Clearly this woman has some sort of mental illness," explains TSA spokesperson Dirk Diggler, "We recommended against pressing charges, and mandated a full psychiatric evaluation."

This liberal read it as funny because of content absurdity, not satire. Why is it that when whack jobs write really stupid things! Get called on it, it is always called a joke. Rush?

I blame the Black Copters and Muslims in Hawaii.

Liberals laugh at it because they know a conservative didn't write it because there's no such thing as a funny conservative. Okay, there's a few but obviously fewer than Black female airline pilots...or conservative female commentators in the closet.

The difference:

Liberals write books to help propel their running for president campaign.

Conservatives run for president to help propel their book writing campaign.

The biggest problem with your definition is that number 6 is the complete opposite with the thinking of the modern liberal. Denying that is intellectually dishonest.

John F. Kennedy would be disgusted with the progressives and the majority of you on this board. Smug, arrogant, yet the opposite of tolerant- of which your ilk constantly espouses.

I think we have to rely on the genius of a slogan on the Top Dog wall to settle this:

"Under the Republicans it's dog eat dog; under the Democrats, the reverse is true."

Coulter is a satirist who pokes fun at our political and cultural leaders. She is very good at her job.

How do we know?

By the number of times she gets into the heads of the mainstream elitists and elicts a response.

IMO, when every opinion on every issue devolves into Obama being a socialist, evolution being propaganda to debunk Christianity, and global warming being a world order conspiracy to take away our freedoms, then yes. Not all, but those in the newspaper, that is my opinion on them.

The article about Coulter was a satire. They took her ridiculous public personality and took it to an obvious extreme as a joke (hence satire). Obviously she is hateful enough that the satire works.
