Must have been a quiet weekend in Washington politics for our 'Know Nothing Whig' POTUS.
He has discovered California, and an opportunity to threaten more US citizens in one state than anywhere else in the country.
The president wrote, "The Governor of California, @GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management. I told him from the first day we met that he must 'clean' his forest floors regardless of what his bosses, the environmentalists, DEMAND of him. Must also do burns and cut fire stoppers.....
"..Every year, as the fire's rage & California burns, it is the same thing-and then he comes to the Federal Government for $$$ help. No more. Get your act together Governor. You don't see close to the level of burn in other states...But our teams are working well together in.....
"....putting these massive, and many, fires out. Great firefighters! Also, open up the ridiculously closed water lanes coming down from the North. Don't pour it out into the Pacific Ocean. Should be done immediately. California desperately needs water, and you can have it now!"
Wasting no time, Governor Newsom did fire back, tweeting:
"You don't believe in climate change. You are excused from this conversation."
Trump's harsh words come after Newsom on Friday threatened a possible takeover of the utility, Pacific Gas & Electric unless it can emerge from bankruptcy ahead of next year's wildfire season with a plan focused on safety. PG&E is blamed for sparking deadly wildfires across the state with its outdated equipment.
The Grump's massive ignorance has gotten tiresome after only a couple of years. Last year most of the burned acreage was Federal, so really the blame must have been on the Federal managers in the Executive Branch. Oh wait a second, that would be The Grump himself, Forever Blameless. Then it must be private sector landowners, big business like railroads and utilities. Oh Wait, they helped elect The Grump. He had to find somebody lower down on the list.
He has shown an amazing ability to gather together un-related factoids into a twitter post. Not sure what he meant by firestoppers, but California does require landowners to cut fire breaks annually in the late spring; but for large landowners like the Federal government these are relatively small compared to the acreage covered. His diminished critical thinking capabilities lead to statements like sending more water to Southern California when the largest fires are burning in Northern California - "Open up the ridiculously closed water lanes coming down from the North. Don't pour it out into the Pacific Ocean". aka "*****you Northern California, burn baby burn"
This last year, thanks to the Republican income tax increase for states like California, New Jersey, New York, etc... the Feds collected far more billions from California than they spent (or sent) back to California.
Now if the Grump wanted to stop sending Federal aid to California once it exceeded the amount collected in California as implementation of austere fiscal policy; I could support that as long as it applied to all 50 states as well.
Until that pipe dream becomes reality, "What should California do to counter the threats of our Emperor-God ?
