There's enough going on that I wanted to keep you abreast of the very latest news related to Cal football. And, let's face it when it's the 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century, you have to give some sort of update.Some recent relevant articles:Movement marks Cal's offseasonThe Inside ScoopByron Cardwell has publicly named four finalists: Cal, Oregon, Texas A&M and Auburn. The last two are for window dressing while the lack of UCLA and USCs names is slightly more interesting. We continue to feel very good about where the Bears sit today. You may remember that Oregon's confidence that they were landing Cardwell gave us pause. I'm at least now willing to say, I think there's a lot of wishful thinking going on in Eugene. I'm looking forward to Monday at 2pm Pacific.Speaking of Oregon, they are reportedly down to three finalists for their open Defensive Coordinator position and two have Cal ties. Tosh Lupoi, Tim DeRuyter and Chris Ash. It appears Tosh is their first choice. FWIW, based on what we are hearing right now, we don't think DeRuyter is heading to EugeneHenry To'oto'o is officially in the Transfer Portal as we had mentioned he would be. There are reports of many bluebloods involved though I finally saw a report today that listed Cal as a dark horse. Folks are underestimating two things: His interest in staying close to home and playing in front of family and friends and secondly, the respect and depth of relationship he has with the Cal staff. The recent success Cal has had and is having with De La Salle players will also be a factor. This is a process that is not over and it would be overly optimistic to say that he's likely to come to Berkeley. However, the Bears are in a good position with him and have a very legitimate chance to see him transfer to Cal. Rest assured the staff will pull out all the stops to convince him. Kekoa Crawford has been clear that he plans to return. Unclear why he hasn't felt the need to make a public statement. To the extent he's continuing to evaluate his NFL future, the NFL has announced seniors who have used up four years of eligibility have until March 1st to declare. Don't be surprised to see 2022 recruiting momentum continue. Cal's in a good spot with 2-3 players who may make early decisions. As in February/early March.
