Predicting the 2023 Recruiting Class
I'm going to take a break from the more existential questions about Cal Football and Cal Athletics in general to once again put myself in a position to be grossly embarrassed in December.Last year, I was "okay" with my attempt to be Nostradamus. I had three players who decommitted and ended up picking nine of the thirteen eventual HS recruits. With that expectation management, here we do:QB:None - I like the recently offered Jaxon Smolek but until and unless he visits, I think odds are he ends up elsewhere and the Bears look to the portal for QB for the 2nd season in a rowRB:Cameron Cook - This is going to come down to TCU vs. Cal and you never want to discount the hometown school but in the end, I think he decides to be a BearWR:Nyziah Hunter Mikal Harrison-Pilot: This will be another duel in Texas, this time with the SEC bound Longhorns. The parents love Cal, Burl's built a great relationship with the young man and the role in the offense MHP can play here will be more attractive than the hometown Horns. The P12s viability is a curve ball here as is the size and configuration of the UT recruiting classTE:Ben Marshall: The Tennesse product chooses CalBrady Nassar: Predicting a de-commit from Colorado and a focus on TE vs. DEOffensive Line:Zander Etsy: The recent offer is getting increased interest throughout the West but in the end stays close to home to study and play in BerkeleyOtherwise, I think you have a name that's not on the list at the moment and a portal transfer to give the Bears three OLDefensive Line/Tackle:Cameron Brandt: Turns down the empty seats and being part of the decline of the Shaw empire to come to CalAshton Sanders Edge/OLB:Jaeden Moore: This will be a dog fight until the end but Cal's passion for this powerful pass rusher eventually wins him overBlake Purchase: I'm not sure he wouldn't already be a verbal if USC and UCLA hadn't dropped a bomb last weekILB:Cade Uluave Defensive Back:RJ Jones Sailasa Vadrawale Maliki Crawford: This one feels inevitableJasiah Wagoner: To finish off the best DB recruiting class in recent Cal history

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Bear Insider rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Bear Insider Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Bear Insider readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Cal and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Cal and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
