2027 Recruiting Update - May 27th
The next three weekends will define Cal's 2027 recruiting season. The Bears will host a large chunk of their priority targets (and backups) along with some already committed prospects. We will have stories up by Thursday of each week outlining who is coming and what's on the lineMalakai Taufoou 's decision to verbally commit to the Ducks took me by surprise. I've now heard from sources outside Cal that Oregon offered him just under $1M for two years at the last minute. That's somewhat mind-boggling given that Safety is generally the lowest valued position group on the field. I think Taufoou can really play and because of that I don't believe Cal will go away and with HS recruits, a lot can change when NIL commitments have to become specific near NSDDane Weber will announce on Thursday and I continue to feel very confident he will select the Bears. This will have recruiting implications for the remaining WR, TE and RB targets on the board, especially if he has a similar Elite 11 performance to the one JKS put up two years agoEli Woodard, who plays WR for Weber in HS, has already said that Cal is among his top 2 (He's since mentioned he will take a visit to UCLA but they are likely in the third slot here), along with Miami. If Miami gives him a crazy dollar figure, then all bets are off, but otherwise, I like where Cal sits with Woodard. Woodard is a very capable deep threat despite having good speed (10.7 100M) and not elite speed. His size and his knack for getting separation count for more than raw wheelsDon't be surprised to see the Bears add two more WRs in the 2027 class for a total of four playersCal wants a TE from the prep ranks and are tracking three talented players (Moraga will have more on that shortly)If there's a position group that lacks a commitment where the Bears will take quite a few players, it's the Offensive Line. OL recruiting overview. I expect to see Cal take four lineman. The Bears have the 12 players outlined in the article, with five or six of those players being priority onesKeep an eye on CB Kamil Loud. the former Bay Area native, now in Las Vegas, likes Cal and his hometown ties may be significant. His teammate Hayden Stepp is a 5-star prospect and the top of Cal's DB boardAnother interesting prospect to track is San Jose Valley Christian Edge Rusher Cameron Saunders. He's rising up a lot of schools' boards, and his local ties make him of obvious interest to the BearsElyjah Staples is IMO, among the very best LB prospects in the West. He's got good size and speed, and plays with his hair on fire. He can play inside or out as well. Cal has a good shot to land his pledge

A few 2027 Recruiting Notes
I feel very good about Dane Weber picking the Bears over the Bruins and Bearcats. Despite rumors to the contrary, Charles Davis III is not taking an official visit to UCLACal is in a very good spot with local 4-star Safety Malakai Taufoou Expect to see the Bears land another big, ugly in the trenches commitment in the next few weeks

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Bear Insider rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Bear Insider Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Bear Insider readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Cal and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Cal and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
