Report Card: Cal vs UNLV

I don’t like to harsh on coaches. But it’s hard not to notice significant coaching improvements through two games this year compared to last year. Switching to a zone down the stretch was a thoughtful and savvy change that bamboozled the Runnin Rebels. For the first 30 or so minutes of regulation, UNLV was feasting on its ability to blow by Cal defenders and get in the paint. Overall, UNLV scored 46 of its 75 points in the paint, going 19-29 on layups overall.

But then Cal switched to a zone, bogged down the lane, and UNLV scored two points in the final six points of the game.
