No. 22 Texas Tops Cal In Empire Classic
NEW YORK (AP) — Matt Bradley logged his third 20-point game of the season, but the sophomore's effort wasn't enough to help Cal men's basketball past No. 22 Texas. The Longhorns beat the Golden Bears, 62-45, in the 2K Empire Classic benefitting Wounded Warrior Project Friday night at Madison Square Garden.
Bradley was the lone Bear to score in double figures, and added 6 rebounds. Grant Anticevich finished with 9 rebounds -- one shy of his career-high total -- and Lars Thiemann added a career-best 8 points.
Texas never trailed, with Cal tying it just once at 21 on Bradley's free throws. Matt Coleman III scored 14 points, Jericho Sims had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Longhorns.
The Longhorns led 25-21 at the half and took a 13-point advantage on Kai Jones' put-back dunk with 12:35 left. A put-back dunk by Jericho Sims to made it 51-38 with 5:48 left.
Jase Febres added 12 points for Texas.
Cal shot 34.6 percent for the game, including a season-low 1-8 (12.5 percent) clip from the 3-point line.
