Three Women's Hoops Players Net Conference Honors

SAN FRANCISCO – Three members of the Cal women’s basketball team have been recognized for their standout play this season and have earned Pac-12 honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.  Senior guard/forward Jaelyn Brown was named an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention while Jazlen Green was voted Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention and fellow freshman Evelien Lutje Schipholt collected All-Defensive honorable mention accolades. The annual Pac-12 awards are voted on by the conference head coaches.

A 6’1” senior from Murrieta, California, this is the second career Pac-12 honor for Brown, who earned Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention in 2017. Cal’s lone returning starter from last season, Brown leads the Bears and ranks 13th in the conference in scoring this season, averaging a career-high 14.5 points per game. Brown scored in double-figures in 13 of Cal’s 18 conference games, including 10 points and the game-winning putback in Cal’s upset win over No. 13 Arizona on Sunday. Brown has seven 20-point performances this season, four of which have come in conference play. Brown A versatile athlete, Brown also ranks among the conference leaders in free throw percentage (3rd – 82.6%), minutes played (12th – 31.0 minutes per game) , and field goal percentage (14th – 41.2%). On February 23, Brown joined Cal’s 1,000-point club during a 26-point performance against No. 3 Oregon, and now ranks 28th on Cal’s all-time scoring list with 1,044 career points. Brown – who has started every game this season and appeared in all 128 games for the Golden Bears over the last four years – was named the espnW National Player of the Week and Pac-12 Player of the Week earlier this season after recording a 30-point, 12-rebound double-double in Cal’s upset win over No. 20 Arkansas.

Green, a freshman guard, becomes the 10th Cal player in the last 7 seasons to earn Pac-12 All-Freshman recognition. An honorable mention selection, Green has led the Bears in scoring in four games this season, including a team-high 17 points in Sunday’s road win over No. 13 Arizona. Green scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half against the Wildcats, opening the game 3-for-3 from three-point range as the Bears registered their first road win over a Top-25 teams since 2015. Green ranks second on the team in scoring during conference play, averaging 8.6 points per game off the bench. She leads Cal in both three-pointers made (43) and three-point percentage (35.8%) this season, and is shooting 50 percent (11-22) from beyond the arc over the last five games. In Cal’s three conference wins this season, Green averaged 14.3 points and 5.3 rebounds off the bench.


A 6’2’’ forward from the Netherlands, Lutje Schipholt earns Pac-12 All-Defensive Honorable Mention after
an impressive first season in the paint. Lutje Schipholt leads the Bears and ranks fifth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.2 blocks per game. She posted a career-high four blocked shots on January 12 against No. 5 Stanford and posted a career-best four steals in Cal’s win at Washington on February 2. Lutje Schipholt has also been a consistent presence for the Bears on the glass, leading Cal in rebounding in
10 games this season and averaging 6.2 rebounds per game on the year. One of four freshmen for the Bears this season, Lutje Schipholt grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in Sunday’s win over Arizona, her fifth game this season with double-digit rebounds. Lutje Schipholt was voted the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week earlier this season after recording her first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in Cal’s win over No. 20 Arkansas.

The Bears will be in action on Thursday as the 2020 Pac-12 Tournament tips off in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The Golden Bears will take on five seed Arizona State (20-10, 10-8 Pac-12) at 11:30 a.m. PT in the opening game of the tournament. The Sun Devils won the lone meeting between the teams this season, topping Cal 77-54 in Tempe last Friday night. However, Cal has won four in a row against Arizona State in the conference tournament, and five of the six postseason matchups between the schools.
