Nine Cal Football Student Athletes Celebrate Graduation
Campus may be off limits for students but that didn't stop nine Golden Bears from celebrating graduation from the nation's number one public institution.
Here are the list of the 2020 celebrants:
Valentino Daltoso -The transfer from Oregon earned a scholarship after earning a starting position for the Bears after his transfer to Cal. The versatile 6-4/305 senior has played in 34 games with 33 starts since his 2017 arrival, with 12 starts at left tackle, 11 at left guard and 10 at right guard. Daltoso will return for his final season for the Bears in 2020. Daltoso earned a degree in Legal Studies at Cal.
Colt Doughty -The College of San Mateo transfer linebacker played two seasons for the Bears. The 6-1/230 ILB played in 16 games for the Bears, all off the bench, and recorded seven tackles during two seasons at Cal as a 2018 junior and 2019 senior. Doughty graduated with a major of American Studies.
Collin Moore -The former walk-on quarterback from San Marin High School reinvented himself to see more playing time, emerging as a 6-4/240 tight end for the Bears. Moore earned the Dink Artal Award as the Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Year for the first of two consecutive seasons after his arrival, redshirting in 2017 after arriving in the spring semester as an early entry. Moore had two receptions with 11 yards receiving and one touchdown catch in 13 games played as a sophomore in 2019. He graduated with a degree in Political Economies. Moore has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He’s put his name in the transfer portal but it’s undetermined if he’ll return to Cal for grad school or transfer.
Gabe Siemieniec -The Canadian kicker played in 26 games for the Bears, all off the bench, and handled 113 kickoffs for 6946 yards with an average 61.5 yards per kickoff while recording 52 touchbacks. Siemieniec obtained his degree in Legal Studies. He entered the transfer portal for the possibility of playing one more season as a grad transfer.
Greg Thomas -The CCSF placekicker transfer originally started his career before transferring to CCSF and eventually Cal. Thomas played in a combined 25 of 26 games possible as a 2018 junior and 2019 senior at Cal. He made 23-of-34 (67.7%) field goal attempts as well as 65-of-66 (98.5%) of his extra-point tries for a total of 134 points. Thomas is a founding member of the Sports Business Group at Cal and has worked with the Oakland Athletics on issues related to transportation, traffic and other issues that will arise if they move from the Oakland Coliseum to a new stadium in Oakland. Thomas obtained a degree in Political Economy at Cal.
Lone Toailoa -The New Zealand native transferred from Mt. San Antonio College to Cal in 2018. He played in 24 of 26 possible games off the bench over his two seasons at Cal as a 2018 junior and 2019 senior. Toailoa totalled 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks , one fumble recovery and two quarterback hurries for the Bears. Toailoa earned the Ken Harvey Award for Academic Commitment and Improvement, earning a degree in American Studies.
Trey Turner III -The Alabama native played in 46 games with one start, totalling 74 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, five pass breakups and one forced fumble He posted career highs of 32 tackles, four pass breakups and one forced fumble as a 2019 senior. Formally named Depriest Oscar Turner III, Turner earned a degree in Sociology at Cal.
Chinedu Udeogu -The 6-4/275 Maryland native played in 27 games over the past three seasons, all off the bench, after redshirting as a 2016 true freshman, totalling 20 tackles including a career-high 13 in a career-high all 13 games played as a sophomore. Udeogu announced his transfer to Illinois this weekend, where he’ll play his senior redshirt senior season. Udeogu earned a degree from the Haas School of Business with a degree in Business Administration. He pursue his masters in Economics at Illinois.
Ricky Walker III -The former walk-on from Oakland’s Bishop O’Dowd High School and San Leandro High School played in 21 games with two starts over the last two seasons as a 2018 redshirt freshman and 2019 sophomore after redshirting in his first campaign at Cal in 2017 and greyshirting in 2016. The 5-11/190 receiver has career totals of three receptions and 38 yards receiving, one rush for a loss of five yards and five tackles so far as a Bear. Walker graduated with a degree in Film from Cal.
Seven other Bears graduated in the 2019-20 school year, all graduating in December following the regular season. All but Singleton and Saffle remained to play for the Bears in 2019. The seven included:
