No doubt, it’s a weird time to be a college coach or a high school athlete. Virtual visits will be the norm for a while. And as typical with the Mark Fox staff, it’s tough to get a good read of who the staff is prioritizing.

Barring no transfers (kind of unlikely these days), Cal will have three open scholarships for next year’s class as Grant Anticevich, Makale Foreman, and Ryan Betley will all exhaust their eligibility this season.

He's there now.

I initially left him off because of a recent ZagsBlog report that detailed his recruitment and had five schools listed as "working the hardest" and Cal wasn't one of them. He was supposed to have a virtual meeting with Cal's staff a week ago. Not sure if that happened.

If Cal can get him on campus when visits open back up then they might have a chance. But if that doesn't happen, I think they've got too much ground to make up compared to the five schools he lists as working hardest in the ZagsBlog report.

Kobe Johnson is now listed as 6'5". A couple of year's ago he was a 6'1" pg.
His growth spurt will likely continue into college if he replicates his brother #1 rated Duke signee five star G/F 6'81/2" Jalen Johnson.

Pretty interesting apparently they keep adding height through their late teems. Due to the fact they were backcourt stars before their growth spurt they have extraordinary ball handling skills for tall guys and are very tough match ups.

Kobe will be an interesting recruit as he may end up being a very flexible wing or slashing/shooting forward in college. It would be interesting to learn what he believes are his physical expectations and college position will be.

So realistically Cal has a chance at only Johnson and Yu because the other guys have other high major offers? Is that too cynical? Having seen Yu play in person I wish him well but not at Cal.

I do like some of Fox's under the radar guys like Celestine and KK and the three grad transfers, but it will be difficult to get much farther without winning the occasional recruiting battle.

Sluggo, Will you be praising the Fox staffs early relationship building and scholarship offer to Kobe Johnson if his development track and physical maturation parallels his brother Jalen Johnson? I think the offer to Kobe is an indication that the staff is looking for unique scholastic players that will be capable of notable success at the highest level. Let's see if he grows into that type of contributor.

Yes! He looks good in highlights. Have not seen a game to have much of an opinion. And I certainly don't know any of the background stuff.

What about Harold Yu? He's got height st 7-3, and much more. Yu is surprisingly athletic for such a tall player, and he has a nice jump shot out to the elbow. He has good touch around the hoop, but he needs to develop his left hand. He gets more than his share of boards but he'll need to add some bulk and strength for the rigors of D-1 ball. Yu has the capability to be a strong rim protector. He's evidently been in the US for a while, and that's evident in his game. Yu ap[pears much more skilled and developed than Lars at roughly the same point in their career. Berkeley should be a strong candidate to acquire his services based on its academic reputation internationally, particularly in China. He'd.be a great get.
