Sturdivant's Marauders Perform at High Level in Texas
J Michael Sturdivant’s Marcus Maruaders continued to roll Friday, extending their record to 5-0 in Texas’s 6A District 6 league. The win puts them at 17th in the state rankings.
The Marauders won in a 56-17 game vs Plano, continuing their dominant start to the season. Sturdivant’s highlight of the day was a 42-yard touchdown off a screen where he blazed past Plano’s D. Showing off his incredible speed, he made it look way too easy.
As good as his highlights were last year, Sturdivant is making another great case this year with some outstanding plays all around the field. He has been making some noise along with his star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who is commited to LSU.
Sturdivant brings it all: route-running, speed, excellent size, and blocking. As the 6th highest ranked wide receiver headed to the Pac-12 for the 2021 class, he’s poised to breakout as a freshman.
Kai Millner completed 24 of 30 pass attempts for 273 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions in a 27-28 loss to local rival Williams Field. He also added 53 yards on the ground on 9 carries, averaging a healthy 5.9 ypc. His one touchdown of the day came off a deflection at the end of the first half.
His team lost a gut-wrenching game to Williams, who took the lead with just 1:09 to play. Higley had a chance to win the game, with Millner completing three passes, including one for 46 yards, to help Higley march down to the Williams Field 23. Unfortunately, with 11 seconds left the place kicker was unable to make the 40-yard field goal.
Hunter Barth recorded one interception, one pass deflection, and no tackles in a 24-14 victory over Highland. He also lined up at tight end and made a good block on a run play.
Barth recorded his second interception of the season after getting just one last year. He’s shown to be a threat in the pass game as well as in the run game where he dominates.
Bastian Swinney’s Edina high school lost 0-42 againt Eden Prairie, bringing them to 0-4 on the season. He has no posted highlights so far this year.
