Christmas came early for 2022 Inglewood QB Justyn Martin‍ as the 4 star QB pulled in an offer he’d been looking for when Cal extended an offer this week to the talented signal caller.

“This one’s a big one to me,” said Martin. “This one’s really big.

“For one, Cal’s a California school and I’ve lived in California my whole life. And after going on a virtual visit with Cal, I just felt at home and just loved it.

“They showed the campus, the stadium, the locker room, the High Performance Center, the campus, the dorms, the team hotel, the business school -they showed a lot.

“When I saw the campus, I intstantly fell in love. It’s beautiful.”

Martin is ready to get out and see things in person as soon has possible, not to mention hit the field again.

“I hope we can get back to normal soon,” said Martin. “Everything being virtual and not being able to practice, I’m ready to get back at it. From January to March we did our 7-on-7 tournaments earlier this year but then they shut things down and it’s been nothing since.

“I think they plan to start things up around January 7, but we’ll see. For high school ball, hopefully we can practice in February and play in March.”

The 6-4/210 Martin transferred to Inglewood near his home for spring semester earlier this year after starting out at Serra-Gardena. An excellent student, Martin’s maintained straight A’s throughout high school so far.

Obviously academics are a priority for Martin but what else is he looking for?

“Honestly, I’m looking for a quarterback-minded coach,” said Martin. “With Coach Musgrave, he has all the experience you could ask for. He’s played in the league, he’s coached in the NFL for I think 18 years. He knows college-level football, pro-level football, coaching pro-level and college level football and he’s got everything you’re looking for in a coach.

“Also what I’m looking for is for a program to be bought-in with me, which Cal definitely has. They make me feel at home every time I talk to them. We’re just building this family-type bond. That’s what I really do like about Cal. And open competition is the last big factor for me, just being able to come in and may the best man get the position.

“If Coach needed to see me make whatever kind of throws, I was ready to go outside and make them right now.

“When I did that virual visit, everything just kind of fell into place. I just feel really comfortable with them.”

With all the disruption caused by covid, Martin doesn’t intend to drag out the recruiting process if he can help it.

“These past couple months, I’ve been talking to my coaches and my family and we’ve been talking about trying to get things figured out on the early side. I think I might be making my decision pretty soon. Cal is definitely up there with my decision-making.”

Besides Cal, Martin has secured offers USC, Oregon, ASU, Colorado, OSU, Michigan State, Nebraska and more.
