Aaron Rodgers Named NFL’s AP Most Valuable Player

TAMPA, Fla. – Former Cal quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL's AP Most Valuable Player presented by Pizza Hut for the third time in his career on Saturday after being previously named for the 2011 and 2014 seasons. The announcement was made during the annual NFL Honors television show which aired Saturday evening. Rodgers' three MVP selections tie him with Tom Brady, Jim Brown, Brett Favre and Johnny Unitas for the second-most in the award's history behind the record five won by Peyton Manning.

Rodgers is Cal's all-time leader in passer rating (150.3) while also being etched in the Golden Bears' record book in several other categories. He played two seasons of collegiate football at Cal (2013, '14) and led the Bears to a school-record-tying 10 wins in his final collegiate campaign as a junior in 2004 before being selected in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft by Green Bay with the No. 24 overall pick.

Rodgers made a seven-figure gift to the Cal football program in June of 2019 to renovate the team's football locker room and create the Aaron Rodgers Football Scholarship that will be awarded each year to a junior college transfer. Rodgers came to Cal after one season at Butte College in Oroville, Calif.
