One of Cal’s earliest 2023 offerees, 6-2/225 2023 Basha (Chandler, AZ) High School LB Wyatt Milkovic has the Bears high on his early list.

“Coach Ragle and Coach Sirmon are my main recruiters, but I’ve also talked to Coach (grad asst JaKori) Ford a few times, as well,” said Milkovic.

“Coach Ragle is a really cool guy. I really had a good conversation with him. He’s a well known and respected guy here in Phoenix from when he used to coach here. I haven’t spoken to Coach Sirmon directly, but I heard a lot of good things about him.

Beyond the Arizona connection with Ragle, Milkovic also is tight with Cal defensive end Brett Johnson.

“I’m good friends with Brett and trained with him all last year at Pro Edge,” said Milkovic. “He’s a great guy who has a high motor like me and we both pushed each other during our training. I’ve asked him questions about Cal and how he likes it and his experience there and he said he loves it.”

Before he had a chance to head up to Cal for the first time, the talented junior had some boxes to check on his visit.

“I’m heading up to Cal on the 27th to camp and I just really want to meet the coaching staff and see some of the facilities and get the vibe of the campus,” said Milkovic before camping at Cal in late June. “The most important thing for me is building a strong relationship with the coaching staff, especially my position coach. I’m also looking for a school with good academics and how close the players are to each other, like a family environment. My goal is to have a decision by the start of my senior year.”

As it turns out, the visit to Cal went well and definitely kept the Bears firmly on the talented junior’s radar.

“I had a great time at Cal!,” said Milkovic. “I loved the coaches. It’s a special place.

“I took an unofficial trip and camped at University of Washington and flew into Oakland at 2 am Sunday morning and did the Cal camp only, but I finally was glad to be able to meet and speak to some of the coaches. I’m looking forward to setting up another visit soon though, for sure.”

The 3 star junior is already a 2-year varsity, totalling 44 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1 ½ sacks, 17 QB hurries and three pass breakups in just four games in his covid-limited soph season at Basha. As a freshman on varsity at Hamilton High School before transferring, Milkovic added 36 tackles, two TFL, four sacks and four QB hurries.

Besides Cal, Milkovic holds early offers from Colorado, Iowa State, New Mexico and Northern Arizona.
