Brown Talks About Commitment to Cal
6-6/280 San Ramon Valley (Danville, CA) High School OT Jackson Brown has been a high Cal target since the Bears extended an offer after Brown’s strong junior season last spring. On Monday, he made things official, announcing his commitment to Cal in front of friends and family on campus at SRV.
“It felt amazing to publicly announce in front of all my friends and family,” said Brown. “I’m glad I got to do it in person with all of my loved ones.”
Besides being the hometown program, what made Cal the right choice for Brown?
“The coaches, player culture and the opportunity to compete to play early were the things that made Cal the right fit for me,” said Brown. “My relationship with Coach Angus is really good, too. We talk almost every day and we get along so well. I have great relationships with the current and future players, as well.
“Brayden Rohme and I have been talking every week. Same thing with Jaxson Moi. I’ve also talked with Kaleb Johnson, Justyn Martin, and Nate Burrell.”
“Jackson’s fantastic,” said San Ramon Valley Coach Aaron Becker. “He’s a great leader and has come a long way as a young man.
“He was not that big of a kid as a sophomore. He was tall but he was lean. But as a junior, he came in 50 pounds heavier. As a sophomore, he probably played at 220. As a junior on varsity, he was 275. Now he’s about 295.
“He’s very techically-proficient and probably one of his best attributes on the field is his nasty streak besides his physical gifts. He wants to finish every block and just destroy guys. He gets mad at his guys on the line when they’re not playing up to his standard.”
Brown became the 13th commitment to the Cal class in 2022, joining fellow OL Sioape Vatikani, QB Justyn Martin, RBs Jaydn Ott and Kaleb Johnson, WR Jaiven Plummer, TE Nick Morrow on offense and DEs Nate Burrell and Jaxson Moi, DT Damonic Williams, OLBs Nunie Tuitele and Curlee Thomas and CB Cameron Sidney.
The Bears beat out Brown’s father’s alma mater Pitt, Tennessee, Virginia, Minnesota, WSU, Colorado, Arizona and more for Brown’s services, with 25 offers in all.
With Brown now in the Cal fold, he plans to get busy helping shape his class.
“I’m already on Sam Yoon and Rashid Williams and also trying to get Jack Endries and Tanner Salisbury once they have some film,” said Brown.
With the Wolves season opener vs. Vintage-Napa cancelled due to air quality, SRV’s game vs. Bishop O’Dowd this week, the game will serve as the 11th ranked NorCal team’s season opener.
