“The coaching staff were invested in me as a player and I felt like I would fit in well with the team," said Okafor of his decision to commit to Cal. "I want to help win as many games there as possible."

Okafor (18) starred for Ireland’s Under-16 team, averaging 16.1 points, 14.3 rebounds and five blocks in the European Championships in 2019, earning him signficant international recruiting attention following his impressive performance.

Okafor will be reunited with former Ireland hoopster and friend Sam Alajiki at Cal, giving the Bears another boost in his recruitment.

“I know Sam very well,” said Okafor. “He tells me he really likes it at Cal. And Cal’s academics will help me with my future.

“My goal is to be the next Cal NBA pro.”

The Bears secured Okafor’s commitment over Arizona, Baylor, Creighton, Georgetown, Georgia, and TCU.

Looks like a solid recruit. Welcome to Cal, Okafor!

the way college hoops are heading, I see CAL getting most of its talent moving forward from oversees. CAL is more revered over seas and most high schoolers in this country want to play basketball and not study.
