The Bears hosted one of the top prospects on their ‘24 board in May with a visit from high 4 star Mater Dei offensive lineman DeAndre Carter‍.

The 6-4/330 Carter already has 20 offers -a veritable who’s who of national programs, from Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Michigan and Oklahoma to Pac-12 programs USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Cal and more.

The visit was a hit with the talented rising senior and made enough of an impression to inspire him to plan a return trip during the season.

“That day was amazing,” said Carter. “Coach Saffell answered a lot of my questions and got me hype about football. He has a lot of enthusiasm.

“I’d like to tour more of the campus because that day was graduation day and we weren’t able to see too much. But I am planning a return visit to get the full tour.

“I plan on visiting again during the football season. I want to check out a game and meet some more of the coaches because I’d like to meet the 0-line coach Angus McClure (who was at his son’s graduation).”

It’s still early for Carter but even so, he has several factors he’s focusing on during the recruiting process.

“I’m looking for a school and a coaching staff that can make me better,” noted Carter. “The education is important and I’d like to be a part of winning program. I want to play for coaches that can get me right for the next level. These are the things I am looking for in a school.”
