4 Star Texas OLB Spence Recaps his First Trip to California
Texas native Brad Spence made his way to California for the first time as the Bears held their third weekend of official visits for June. The 6-3/220 2023 Klein Forest (Houston, TX) 4-star OLB/edge defender got the full bay area and Cal experience, putting Cal in one of the top schools he is considering.
“It’s a great program. It was my first visit to California, so it was something nice to see,” said Spence.
Hosted by defensive tackle Ricky Correia, Spence got to hang out with the team in a more casual and relaxed environment, allowing himself to get a more realistic impression of what being a student-athlete at Cal entails, as well as the general atmosphere and culture of the program.
“I got to kick it with some of the guys. We went out bowling and to their house, and we were talking about the coaches and their relationships and the program, so it was nice. I get along well with them.”
The OV weekend not only gave Spence time with the players but also quality time with the staff.
“Vic ( OLB coach Vic So’oto) is the guy who recruited me, so me and him are pretty close now, and seeing him face to face was a good experience,” said Spence.
With 32 offers from schools like Texas, Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Nebraska, Spence weighs his numerous options by looking for “a family environment, a good team relationship with coaches, and somewhere I’ll fit in the defense.” Additionally, Spence values and factors in his relationship with the players and teammates he will be surrounded by during his collegiate career.
“Cal is definitely in my top, top schools that I’m considering,” Spence stated.
So far, Spence has visited Arkansas and Cal and is planning on deciding during the season, but there is a chance he could decide as soon as fall camp.
