Bears Pull in Commitment From Clemson Portal ILB Sergio Allen
Last weekend, the Bears hosted a combination of six transfer portal, prep and JC recruits in the last December official visit weekend and today officially added a pair to their signees.
Included in the group of visitors was Clemson portal transfer MLB Sergio Allen, a former 4 star Fort Valley, Georgia prep recruit also offered by the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Florida and more who committed and signed with Cal this morning. As a 4-year prep starter, Allen posted 357 total tackles, including 222 solo, to rank in the top five in school history in career tackles, adding 45 career tackles for loss, including 15 sacks and 48 quarterback hurries.
“Cal had the best opportunity for me on the field,” Allen said. “Coach Sirmon and the staff let me know I was a priority for them. Not only that but the University of California has a tremendous academic program and over 500k alumni. Life after ball is something I value and I see a lot of potential with the Bears. I’m looking forward to getting to work with my new teammates and grinding!”
Allen’s official visit to Berkeley helped seal the deal for the Georgia native.
“The visit went very well,” noted Allen. “The best thing about the trip was being able to be in the position to take the trip. I know there’s a lot of portal guys out there and some may not find a home so that was a blessing in itself.
“The campus was beautiful and has a lot of history behind it so that was a good thing to see academically. All of the coaches were good to be around and made my first trip out to the west a good one.”
The 6-1/230 MLB played mainly on special teams so far, playing behind two of Clemson’s top tacklers at MLB in 2nd team All-American Jeremiah Trotter and All-ACC MLB Barrett Carter. He’ll have 3 years to play 2.
Allen will be a spring enrollee and will be back on campus in January.
