A week after a successful opening official visit weekend where the Bears hosted 2024 OT commit Tyler Knape and seven other prospects, they’re back at it again this weekend with five additional recruits.

Headlining the list is Central Catholic (Modesto, CA) safety commit Brooklyn Cheek‍. The 6-2/180 3 star DB committed to Cal June 3, choosing the Bears over Oregon, Arizona, ASU and WSU. As a junior, Cheek had 37 tackles and three interceptions for his 8-5 Central Catholic squad who played a tough non-league schedule that included top-ranked national team St. John Bosco, NorCal open division champs Serra-San Mateo, St. Mary’s Stockton and St. Francis-Mountain View.

6-5/230 Summit (Bend, OR) High School tight end Charlie Crowell will be making the trip down the coast to visit the Bears. The 3 star TE also holds offers from Arizona and WSU. As a junior, Crowell pulled in 23 catches for 366 yards and 5 TDs for the Oregon 5A state champs, averaging an impressive 15.9 yards per catch.

6-3/275 Bay City, Texas defensive end Carlon Jones‍ is also a high target for the Bears. The 3 star wrecking ball already holds 25 offers, including Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, TCU, Utah ASU and more. The Bears will be the fourth of five official visits for Jones, having already tripped to Nebraska, Oklahoma State and TCU, with a final visit planned for Georgia Tech the following weekend.

Fellow Texas recruit Michael-Anthony Okwura will also make the trek west. The unrated 6-3/250 St. Thomas Catholic (Houston, TX) High School defensive end is a bit of an off-the-radar recruit, with Cal being his lone FBS offer to date. As a sophomore, Okwura totaled 23 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 1 sack in just 4 games at his prior high school, 7 Lakes in Katy, Texas. As a junior at 10-2 district runner-up St. Thomas, Okwura had 48 tackles, 4 TFL and 1.5 sacks on the season, earning 1st team all-state honors.

The final visitor is 6-1/185 College of San Mateo safety Ja’ir Smith. The 3 star junior also holds offers from Washington, Oregon State, TCU and Houston. The Bears are the second of three scheduled OVs for Smith, with a trip to Oregon State last weekend and an OV at Washington set up for next week. Smith was a part of CSM’s state champion squad last season. CSM was also voted national champions after their state victory. As a soph, Smith had 23 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
