A few days after his official visit to Cal, 2024 Georgia PG Jeremiah Wilkinson‍ announced his commitment to Cal. The 6-1/175 Skills Factory (Atlanta, GA) 3 star point guard was one of three official visitors to Cal over the weekend in their first OV weekend of the school year.

"Really, it was the connection between the players and the coaches at Cal," Wilkerson said of the biggest factor in his choice of the Bears. "As soon as I stepped on campus I felt love from everybody, like players, coaches and students. It was an easy vibe with the coaches from talking to them and hanging out with the players. They really embraced me and made me feel like I was gonna be in the right place for not just playing basketball but off the court because that takes up a lot of time, too."

WIlkinson noted that he’ll be coached largely as a point guard by assistants Adam Mazarei and Ken Moses at Cal.

“Both are great coaches and great guys who I know are going to help me get to the highest level, especially with Coach Maz’s NBA experience. He’s seen and been on the exact level I want to go.”

Wilkinson will be joining a veteran team next season, though some of those veterans will have departed after their senior season so the roster will look different when he arrives in Berkeley next summer.

"They have an older team and my goal as a basketball player is to be able to come in and contribute to the fullest that I can possibly contribute,” Wilkinson said. “So I'm always paying attention to that, but yeah, I'm not really worried. I feel like if I go to college and work my hardest, everything will work itself out."

Wilkinson’s visit to Cal over the weekend sealed things for the Georgia point guard.

"My visit to Cal was great. Cal's definitely a program that's coming up. It's a fairly new team and a new coaching staff. I really liked the coaching staff. I got to watch practice. They're definitely a high-level team.

"I really like the area the school is in. They seem like they do their best to make like a family feel at the school."

Coming all the way from Georgia, Wilkinson was particularly interested to spend time in the bay area and get a feel for the area.

"We did get a good chance to see the bay area," Wilkinson noted. "As somebody from Atlanta, I really like it over there because it's different, a lot different than just how everything looks over here. I've only been there one other time in my life and that's really an area that I like a lot that I don't get to see much so it definitely was great to be there."

The players and staff also made a big impression on the 2024 point guard.

"It was all love with the players," Wilkinson said. "They embraced me pretty quickly. I really like the staff there, too. They’re a pretty young staff overall so it’s easy to relate to them and it’s just really comfortable talking with them and seeing them coach.”

The Atlanta point guard was an early Mississippi State commit but chose to reopen his recruitment over the summer. The senior PG has a smooth game, where he’s able to score off the dribble, shoot from the perimeter and is a solid ball distributor. As a soph shooting guard, Wilkinson averaged 16.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. No junior stats are available.

Wonderful news! Nice to see an early recruit for 2024 after the last few years. Doubly nice that it's someone who had been committed to an SEC team.

Nice pickup. Do we have an idea of what led to his decommitment from Mississippi State?
