Bears add their third 2025 commit with Texas Safety Kaden Cook
The Bears picked up their third commitment of the 2025 class this week with the commitment of 5-11/175 Stony Point (Round Rock, Texas) DB Kaden Cook.
The two-way player had already visited Cal twice taking in the Bears’ battle with Auburn three weeks ago in Berkeley with the first visit last year when he came along on his brother Cameron’s official visit before the 2023 running back committed to TCU and again on Cal’s junior day earlier this spring.
"They really impressed me on my junior day visit because it was the first time I had been out there for just myself," Cook noted. "They made me feel as more of a priority rather than option when I was there."
And on his return visit for the Auburn game, Cook noted: “Great atmosphere to be in. I was impressed by the crowd and fans. It shocked me. I didn't know that the atmosphere would be like that. I didn't think that there would be many people because I'm used to Texas football games where there's a lot of people. I didn't think it would be just as much in California as it is in Texas. And I liked the bay area, especially the weather. "That was something that I realized immediately. I like the players, too. They seem to have a great energy."
Another big selling point for his early commitment was the way Cal DB coaches Tre Watson and Terrance Brown run their DB room at Cal.
"I just like how they have their defensive back room not split up into two," Cook said. "I'm a diverse player. I can play corner and safety and they play their players, wherever it's the best fit for them and the team.
"I think they're really good coaches. I think they're the best at what they do and I'm confident in both of them to make me the best player that I can be. I like the way they work together. It seems like they're really close to each other and really close with their players as well."
Cook joins running backs Jojo Solis and Carter Jackson as early ‘25 commits to-date. Cook chose the Bears over fellow offerees Arizona State and a resurgent Texas State. The Bears likely see the Texas DB as a future safety, though he could play both safety and corner. So far through three games, the junior has 8 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. As a junior, Cook had 54 tackles -25, 1 interception and 15 pass breakups.
Stay tuned for more on Cook’s commitment.
