The Bears picked up their second Top 100 recruit on Friday with the commitment of Westtown School (Westtown, PA) point guard Zahra King, rated the number 76 recruit nationally overall. The Brooklyn native was the first East Coast recruit to commit since the Bears’ future move to the ACC was announced.

"Even though it's far from home, it really felt like home to me," King said of her desire to play at Cal. "Of course, the academics are top notch but the thing that really enticed me was Coach Charmin and the way that I saw her interactions with the girls and the relationship that they all have together. They really compete hard. They love each other. And that's what really enticed me to go to Cal.”

The future Bears point guard has followed the way the program’s roster has changed in the offseason with several new portal transfer and prep recruits and likes what she’s seeing so far.

"I think that with these years coming up, I feel like Cal is going to be a special place as far as our team and the atmosphere that that we're going to create both on and off the court," King noted. "But I think it's going to be really special in these next few weeks, these next few years to see how we're going to come out especially now that we're going to move into the ACC and all of that, like our transfers, our other freshmen that are coming in. It's going to be special."

"I'm excited, so excited. Just by watching a few practices, the few practices that I saw, I loved it."

King was disappointed to miss out on playing against her future teammates when they played at famous Rucker Park near Harlem, a court she’s played on many times herself with it being right in her backyard.

"I was supposed to go play and meet them down there and just basically take them around the city because I'm from Brooklyn so that would have been fun, but I didn't have a chance to because I was in school in Pennsylvania. But Kam and Gaby came down on my visit. So they came down for Saturday when I was on my visit and they hung out with me until we left and stuff, we kicked it. We have a pretty good relationship. We met through the circuit and stuff like that. Real cool person. I'm excited to play with her this year."

What can Cal fans expect to see from their new point guard commit?

"They can expect an explosive guard," King said. "I like to get teammates involved and I will do anything it takes to win. I think I bring a different type of swag to the game. And I think that'll really energize Haas Pavilion and all of that. So I'm excited. I'm excited to bring my game and everything that I have to offer to Cal and into the Berkeley area."

"Zahra's a lefty combo guard who can shoot it well," a source familiar with the program said. "She's a slasher, can get to the basket. She's been playing in New York at Rucker and all the parks in New York. She's got good presence in terms of her basketball brand, so to speak. She's on the wall at the Nike store in Soho and she did some commercials and things like that. But really, she’s just an athletic, skilled lefty guard who can do a lot of good things."
