The Bears hosted a quartet of official visitors this weekend including 6-2/230 Northeast Mississippi City College MLB Keaton Thomas.

The 3 star juco was a bounce back from West Virginia before transferring to NE Miss CC. He racked up 108 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 2 interceptions this season. Thomas currently holds offers from WVU, Baylor, NC State, Southern Miss and more. He prepped at Trinity Christian in Jacksonville, Florida, originally signing with West Virginia as a safety before eventually moving to MLB. He redshirted as a frosh at WVU so he will presumably have 3 years of eligibility remaining as a spring enrollee. As a prep senior, Thomas had 60 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 pass breakups and 7 interceptions leading his team to a state championship.

Following his visit, Thomas was glowing about his time on campus.

“Man, first off it was a great experience,” Thomas said of his visit. “That was my first time being on the west coast and it sure was memorable.

“My favorite part and what stood out the most was getting to talk hall with Coach Sirmon, the DC and ILB coach. He’s awesome. He’s smart, passionate, and tenacious. He showed me how they can help me, how I can help them, and how I can keep improving on and off the field in order to achieve my dreams and goals. The whole experience was a blessing.”

Thomas was comfortable with all the players and coaches he had the chance to interact with this weekend and walked away impressed with the overall atmosphere at Cal.

“I talked to about every player I was able to,” Thomas said. “My favorite player conversation was with Jackson Sirmon. All-Conference ILB who really has a knack for getting guys down and knows the defense very well.

Though it’s a bit early for a final decision for Thomas, the Bears won’t likely have to wait long for a decision.

“I don’t have a top school list as of now, however, Cal is highly intriguing to me,” Thomas said. “I met with all the coaches on the staff. Everyone is vibrant and obviously love their jobs very much.

“I plan on deciding here within the next week and a half. I will sign this month and enroll in January for winter workouts and spring ball.

“Berkeley was awesome, I couldn’t be more than thankful for the experience the staff and players gave me this weekend. I could definitely see myself making an impact there for the next three years.”
