TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Fardaws Aimaq scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Jaylon Tyson also recorded a double-double and the California men's basketball team put together a dominating road win over Arizona State, beating the Sun Devils 81-66 on Saturday.

Tyson scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds – his sixth double-double of the season – Jalen Cone scored 19 on 6-for-9 shooting and Keonte Kennedy added 12 points and tied a career-high with four steals for Cal (9-13, 5-6 Pac-12). Cal shot 50% (27 of 54) from the floor and from 3-point range (11 of 22) while dishing out 18 assists.

Aimaq recorded his 14th double-double of the season, the most in the Pac-12, with his 20-point, 14-rebound effort. The big man was 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and chipped in five assists.

It was Cal's first win at ASU since 2017 when the Golden Bears beat Arizona State by a near-identical score – 81-65 – on New Year's Day that year. Cal now has won three of four.

Alonzo Gaffney and Jamiya Neal scored 14 points apiece for Arizona State (11-11, 5-6), which lost its fourth straight game and sixth of its last seven. Frankie Collins and reserve Shawn Phillips Jr. each scored 13.

The Sun Devils shot 27 of 70 (38.6%), including 8 for 24 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Cal built an 8-0 lead and never trailed. The Bears extended the lead to 24-10 midway through the first half and went to intermission up 38-26. They stayed up by double digits the entire second half.

Cal hosts USC on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. PST in Berkeley. The Pac-12 Network will televise the contest.

Asu and ucla did not look as good asSt Thomas, Santa Clara or some of the other teams we lost to. I know we have improved but some pac12 teams are just not that good . Asu plays basically a slow down fox offense as does ucla.

At least we do not mindlessly pass the ball around the perimeter.

Some slippage in terms of turnovers but Hurley emphasizes defense so maybe that was expected. However, the team is peaking at the right time.
