BERKELEY – The California baseball team makes its final trip to Phoenix Municipal Stadium as a Pac-12 Conference opponent when it takes on Arizona State for a three-game series starting Thursday.

The Golden Bears (15-7, 5-4 Pac-12) are playing just their fifth true road game starting Thursday. Cal defeated Santa Clara 6-4 thanks to a three-run walk-off home run from freshman Jarren Advincula. It is the Bears' third walk-off win this season.

Arizona State (11-14, 3-6) is coming off a thrilling road win of its own. The Sun Devils came back from six down to defeat UNLV in Las Vegas on Monday. At home this year, ASU is 7-9.

The Bears are fresh off a thrilling 6-4 win over Bay Area rival Santa Clara. Jarren Advincula hit a 3-run home run for the walk-off win - the third walk-off win of the season for the Golden Bears.

After starting conference play 4-0, the Bears enter this weekend with a 5-4 record in the Pac-12, which has the Bears sitting in fourth place.

Cal hit two home runs in the win over Santa Clara, and the Bears are 9-2 this season when hitting two or more home runs in a game.

On the mound, the Bears sport a staff ERA of 4.66, which ranks 58th in the nation. Cal is averaging 10.9 strikeouts per game, which ranks 43rd in the nation. The Bears sport a 9.3 K/9 ratio, which also ranks in the top 100 in the nation.

The Bears' RPI as of 3/26 is 43rd, which is third in the Pac-12. The lowest the Bears' RPI has been this season is 28, which came on March 21. The highest was 59, which came on Mar. 12.

Bears need a new pitching coach.
My god they like to serve up walks.

Team is fading due to inadequate pitching.

Bears getting pounded again. Down 7-2, bottom of the 5th. They once led 2-0.

Baseball Standings | Pac-12 (ouch)

The best I can come up with is that May threw 2 scoreless innings.

GO BEARS!!!
If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
Well you know they've got a hell of a band

After starting 4-0 to start league play, Bears have gone 1-7….
Not a good trend.

Really bad trend. I went to one of the home games vs UCLA. Trying to follow closely since then but starting to lose interest as the losses mount … Cmon Bears!

There hitting is good but their pitching is suspect.

Neu isn't recruiting well. Here's Perfect Games recruiting class rankings:

2020-Not in top 100. (Of schools)
2021-Not in top 100
2022-Not in top 100
2023 #43 (top player ranked #158)
2024 #88
Neu has picked up some decent transfers, plus developed the players he's recruited, but you need a handful of top 300 players in each class, plus a few top 100.
ACC won't be easier.

Haven't chimed-in in a while, but to use Mehdi Hasan's expression, "Surprise!".

The baseball team is having enough problems without getting assigned extra losses. They are 5-7 in conference. Swept UCLA, won once against Oregon and Utah, swept at ASU.

LOL, OMG this clown is hilarious. There are so many receipts of you endorsing Neu as the man who was going to take this program to the next level. Then I see that you come on here and say that you all have the worst coach. RECEPTS, and they are out there folks. I can call them up as I have done in the past. Please, the baseball program needs your help in finding "That" HC who is going to bring this program a championship!

PG is a load of crap, but you are right, he has not been recruiting great. I laugh because the baseball program posts a celebration of Neu's 200th win. However, they included his wins from UOP!!!! What program does that??? Maybe wait until he hits 200 while @ Cal.

Neu was left a team that was slated to win the Pac and make a CWS run. He failed to get that team to a regional when he took over 7 years ago. I wonder why he ran Matt Flemmer off as the pitching coach?? Cal is going to be the whipping boy for the ACC. Depending on where Cal and Stanford will be placed in their 2 divisions. Stanford is down this year, because of the draft, but that will not last. They will end up being competitive. U of A is coming up, and they have been playing good ball. If this keeps up, the only real series they have a chance of winning is Stanford. WSU is competitive and that comes after U of A.
