Ohio State Portal WR Kyion Grayes Fired Up To Be a Bear
The Bears hosted a trio of portal recruits this weekend, including redshirt sophomore Ohio State wide receiver Kyion Grayes who announced his commitment to Cal this morning on Instagram. The 6-0/190 receiver was a 4 star recruit out of Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona before he signed with the Buckeyes over Oregon, USC, Penn State, Auburn and more and was rated the #3 player in Arizona and #98 overall by Rivals after hauling in 21 passes for 388 yards and 4 TDs in 5 games as a senior after returning from an injury. He’ll have a minimum of 3 years of eligibility. Grayes had a single catch in 2022 and did not play in 2023 for OSU.
“Man, Cal just felt like home for me and my family right away,” Grayes said after his commitment. “I’ve never seen my parents so happy. They knew I found the right place for me as a player and as a person.
“The staff keeps it real and they let you be yourself and it’s more than just a football relationship. It was the same with (QB) Fernando Mendoza. We were talking a lot and he told me we’re going to be out there all the time working on our timing so we can tear it up this season.
“This team has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. I mean a lot. We’re going to surprise a lot of people this season. And some of those road trips on the schedule...Auburn and Florida State, and Miami at home? Man, I can’t wait!”
Greyes brings immediate athleticism and high-ceiling potential to a Cal wide receiving corps that was revamped through the portal in the offseason. The redshirt soph WR becomes the 38th member of Cal’s 2024 recruiting class to date, with more to come.
Stay tuned for more from the official visitors and upcoming visits to come.
