The Safety Room:

Phil Steele has a PDR (Pass Defense Rating) that he tabulates after every season.  Cal was regularly in the top 25 nationally before dropping to 88th in 2022 and barely improving in 2023 to 83rd.  As far as safety play goes, that was not because of a lack of talent.
