Bears Add Their 2nd 4 Star Guard in 2025 PG Semetri Carr

The Bears picked up the second piece of their 2025 recruiting class, another Top 150 guard in Redwood High School point guard Semetri Car‍r. The newest Bear chose the Bears over Colorado, USF, Creighton and New Mexico.

The 6-0/170 4 star point guard averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in Branson’s playoff run season last year and was set to transfer to San Francisco’s Archbishop Riordan but his transfer was denied so he’s now attending Redwood High School in Larkspur - his local public school.

The relationship that Carr’s established with head coach Mark Madsen and the Cal staff picked up steam in the Section 7 basketball tournament in the summer and has only grown stronger since then.

"It's been really good," Carr said. "Honestly, that was kind of the main reason why i i chose Cal, just that coaching staff, I felt a true connection with them and they really appreciate what I do on the court. And Coach Maz (Adam Mazarei) - super good dude. Coach Madsen, just hearing some of the stories he was telling me and stuff, super personable, relatable. So I would say I have a great relationship with them already."

On the court, Carr loved the product he saw on the floor and the way the Cal staff runs practices.

"I feel like just from some of the practices I saw, the intensity,” Carr noted. “They're bringing in guys who want to compete and want to win, and bringing that culture back to Cal of winning and getting back to the tournament, making runs. So I feel like they're in a really good spot and just coming in there, I hope to add to that."

Carr will join fellow 4 star 2025 guard Jovani Ruff‍ in the Bears’ future backcourt and the two future Bears have already begun to bond.

"Yeah, I know Jovani," Carr said. You know, West Coast, we've battled a lot against his team. And then when I committed, he reached out to me and since then I've been just talking with him. I went to the football game recently, but I think he's going to try to come over for one. I'll probably just pop up there to catch up and stuff and hang out, which would be good.

"Playing alongside him, can shoot the lights out, defends. Another guy who just wants to win and is about the right thing. So I'm super looking forward to that.

"I would say I'm a point guard who looks to get my teammates involved, who can push the tempo and start the break on my own by getting the rebound first and then a pass-first point guard who gets my teammates involved, creates opportunities, gets in the lane, and can get a bucket whenever they need as well as knock down threes off the dribble, kind of whatever you need."

Carr had the chance to take in the Bears’ win last week over SDSU and loved the atmosphere with his future classmates in the student section.

'It was a great atmosphere,” Carr said. “They just beat Auburn the week before and now people are starting to get the buzz back to Cal and then they played San Diego State and won 31-10. So now they're 3-0, starting to fill out. It was fun. Good environment, good student section. Feels like a good community to be a part of."

The Bears are expected to have several more spots available for 2025 the with all the frequent player movement in the portal throughout the country but that number will likely remain TBD for quite some time.
