Keenan Allen Named NFL AP Comeback Player Of The Year
MINNEAPOLIS – Former Cal football wide receiver Keenan Allen was named the NFL's AP Comeback Player of the Year for the 2017 season during the NFL Honors awards show Saturday at the Cyrus Northrop Memorial Auditorium at the University of Minnesota. A two-hour primetime special from the event will be televised tape-delayed on NBC Saturday night (9 pm ET and PT).
Allen registered career highs of 102 receptions and 1393 yards receiving in 2017 for the Los Angeles Chargers to go along with six touchdown catches. He added another a seventh touchdown when he recovered a fumble by teammate Melvin Gordon and took it in for six points. Allen also had one that he returned 32 yards when he was in the game as a defensive back on a Hail Mary attempt.
Allen played his first Pro Bowl in 2017 for a winning AFC squad.
Allen returned from a 2016 season in which he suffered a season-ending injury in the first contest of the campaign. He has career totals of 323 receptions, 4010 yards receiving and 22 touchdown catches in his first five seasons in the NFL all with the Chargers.
Allen played for three seasons at Cal from 2010-12 and finished his collegiate career as the school's all-time leader with 205 receptions while ranking third with 2570 yards receiving and seventh with 17 touchdown catches.
