BERKELEY – California quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Quarterback of the Week for his performance in Saturday's Big Game win over Stanford, the conference announced on Monday.

Mendoza completed 25-of-36 passes for 299 yards and tied a career-high with three touchdown passes in Cal's 24-21 comeback victory. Mendoza's third touchdown pass of the day turned out to be the game-winner when he connected with Jonathan Brady for a 22-yard score with just 2:40 left in the game to cap a 98-yard drive.

The Miami, Florida native became the seventh Cal player to throw for 3,000 yards in a season and it is the ninth time a Cal player has thrown for 3,000 or more passing yards in a single campaign. His current total of 3,004 yards passing in 2024 ranks ninth all-time in Golden Bear history.

This is the third ACC Quarterback of the Week honor this season for Mendoza after he received the recognition on Oct. 28, and Nov. 11. Cal has a total of eight in its first season as a member of the ACC. Ryan Coe (Specialist of the Week) and Xavier Carlton (Defensive Lineman of the Week) were also honored on Nov. 11 after Cal's win at Wake Forest.

Derek Morris (Specialist of the Week) received the honor on Oct. 28 after Cal's victory over Oregon State, while Teddye Buchanan (Linebacker of the Week) and Nohl Williams (Defensive Back of the Week) were recognized on Sept. 9 after the Bears' road win at Auburn.

He clinched it the moment the panel on the ACC Network post-game coverage heard his interview.

My word, they should show that interview before every Big Game in the future.
