After a record-sized group of 23 early entry frosh and portal transfer players arrived on campus in January and participated in spring ball, a large new group of portal transfer players arrived for the May session of summer school at Cal.

The newest arrivals include a trio of portal transfer running backs: 5/10-215 former UTSA soph running back Brandon High‍, who will be reunited with new Cal running backs coach Julian Griffin, 5-10/220 former SMU senior running back LJ Johnson‍ and 5-11/190 former NC State soph running back Kendrick Raphael‍,

The trio of wide receiver portal transfers include speedy 5-7/175 soph WR Quaron Adams‍,  6-0/190 Purdue transfer Jayden Dixon-Veal‍‍ and 6-2/210 Wisconsin transfer Mark Hamper‍.

At tight end, the Bears picked up 6-5/240 Temple transfer Landon Morris‍ after the departure of grad transfer TE Jack Endries.

After bringing in a big group of five offensive linemen in the spring, they added another interior lineman in 6-2/305 Jacksonville State center Daveion Harley‍.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bears added eight spring portal entries.

On the defensive line, the Bears made a late addition with 6-1/305 dynamo DT Zae Smith‍ from Houston Christian. He joined early signing period 6-4/290 junior DL addition Tyson Ford‍ who stayed behind at Notre Dame to graduate before arriving at Cal this week.

At linebacker, the Bears added a dynamic trio in 6-2/230 soph BYU transfer ILB Harrison Taggart‍, 6-4/235 Chattanooga senior edge Chris Victor‍ and highly sought-after 6-2/265 Liberty soph edge TJ Bush‍.

In the defensive backfield, after losing corners Nohl Williams and Marcus Harris along with safety Craig Woodson to the NFL draft, the Bears added five DBs in the early signing period. They continued to rebuild the backfield with an additional trio of late portal DBs in 5-11/190 South Florida junior CB Brent Austin‍ and 6-0/175 Utah redshirt frosh CB Quimari Shemwell‍ along with 6-0/195 Texas Tech junior safety Jordan Sanford‍.

On the special teams front, the Bears took advantage of the new expanded scholarship roster limits by adding a pair of kickers to replace early signee Kyle Cunanan‍, who had an uneven spring before departing to the portal once again. 5-10/190 Penn State senior Chase Meyer‍ and 6-0/210 redshirt frosh Miami transfer Abram Murray‍ will battle it out this fall and University of Texas 6-3/195 soph Michael Kern‍ will battle early signee Brook Honore‍ to take over for all-conference punter grad Lachlan Wilson. And at longsnapper, the Bears added Notre Dame junior Rino Monteforte‍.

The 20 late period signees will be joined in a couple weeks by an additional crop of nine incoming frosh signees as they move into summer workouts.
