Arizona DB Mason Lewis Commits to Cal
The Bears shook off a pair of decommits yesterday to add Basha (Queen Creek, AZ) High School DB Mason Lewis today, two weeks after his official visit to Cal.
“Really, what made Cal the right fit for me was their attention to detail in everything they do, from the field to the weight room to the classroom,” the newest Bear said. “They move with purpose and I clicked very well with the whole staff and fit the mold of player they were looking for.
“Cal sees using me as a boundary safety in the same way they utilized Craig Woodson.”
Lewis was a 2-way player as a junior, totaling 33 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 7 passes defended on defense and 39 carries for 238 yards along with 20 catches for 435 yards and 5 TDs and 5 kick returns for 105 yards.
The 3 star athlete played his first three seasons at Casteel HS, also in Queen Creek before transferring to Basha. A 2-sport athlete who also plays baseball, Lewis held offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Arizona State, Kansas State, Vanderbilt and more before committing to Cal. He becomes the 22nd commit in Cal’s 2026 class, joining QBs Brady Palmer and Nainoa Lopes, RB Victor Santino, WRs EJ Morgan and Tyree Sams, offensive linemen Kamo'i Huihui-White, Elisha Faamatuainu, Esaiah Wong and Artem Korchagin, DL Nemyah Telona and Frank Fanua, edge Camron Brooks, LBs Jonathan McKinley and Jaxon Pyatt, DBs Ernest Nunley, Jayden Crowder and Deon Jackson and ATH Rocky Cummings.
After a reshuffling of rankings, the Bears currently stand at #18 on Rivals/On3 and 30th on 247.
