Oregon LB Kamar Mothudi Picks the Bears

Athletic former 4 star USC recruit joins Cal through the portal

The Bears added a key piece to their linebacker corps today with the commitment of Oregon portal transfer linebacker Kamar Mothudi‍ today.

“I felt Cal was the best fit because I felt as though the coaching staff gives me the best chance to reach my goals,” Mothudi said after his commitment. “I have a good relationship with the staff and i’m excited to grow and develop under them.”

As a redshirt frosh in 2025, the 6-3/245 Mothudi totaled 4 tackles in limited duty behind a deep Oregon linebacker depth chart this season.

Joining with USC frosh portal transfer LB AJ Tuitele‍, the newest linebacker additions will fill a crucial void in the middle of the Bears’ defense with the departure of starters Cade Uluave and Luke Ferrelli through the portal.

As a 4 star prep recruit at Los Alamitos, Mothudi did it all on both sides of the ball, rushing for 1,345 yards and 18 touchdowns and catching 20 passes for 237 yards on offense and adding 104 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two interceptions in a monster season for Los Alamitos. He was rated the #3 linebacker and #117 recruit overall and played in the Adidas All-American Bowl and chose Oregon over Cal, Washington, UCLA, Michigan, Texas and more.

Besides Tuitele, Mothudi joins fellow LB Tristan Jernigan‍ (Texas A&M), edges Emmanuel Okoye‍ (Tennessee), Solomon Williams‍ (Texas A&M) and Joshua Pierce‍ (UNT), DTs Jericho Johnson‍, Justin Beadles‍ (Louisville) and Ashun Shepphard‍ (Miss St), safeties Kingston Lopa‍ and Michael Hurst Jr‍, cornerbacks Marquis Groves-Killebrew‍ (Miss St), Daniel Harris‍ and Ricky Fletcher‍ along with QB Jackson Brousseau‍, running backs Adam Mohammed‍ (UW), Carter Vargas‍ (UC Davis) and Ashton Emory‍ (UTEP), receivers Cooper Perry‍ (Oregon), Ian Strong‍ (Rutgers) and Chase Hendricks‍ (Ohio), tight end Dorian Thomas‍ (New Mexico) and offensive linemen Jimothy Lewis‍ (Miss St), Jacob Arop‍ (South Dakota), Mykeal Rabess‍ (FIU) and Kahlee Tafai‍ (Minnesota).

So are you saying Mothudi is not a good player and Oregon doesn't want him?

No. I'm keeping it real. The author of the article is twisting reality to make him seem better than he is. Maybe he's a future hall of famer. But he didn't have only 4 tackles, while healthy, because Oregon was deep at LB. That's a lie. Oregon was thin AND weak at LB.

We get it. You are saying Oregon's LB group was its weakest unit and had depth issues and yet he still barely played. Accepting that as a fact, logically that means he is not as good as the guys that played that you think were Oregon's worst unit, that they "sucked." The context being that Oregon's defense was really good. Presumably superior DL and DB play. However, the LBs were probably not as horrible as you think they were or Oregon would not be the #6 defense. Sure, they may have been the weak link that kept you from being the #1 defense, but that does not mean they would not be good players for Cal in the ACC. It is all relative. Your standards this year were very high. Our offense and our defense REALLY sucked last year and our coach got fired. Again, it is all relative. It is like saying the LBs on an NFL team "suck." Sure, but they were stars in college and still would be if they played there. It is all relative.

In any case, we will see how Mothudi does this coming season.

He chose Oregon over Washington, Michigan, Texas, Utah, Nebraska, Michigan State, ASU and Cal, among many others. Tosh Lupoi was his recruiter at Oregon.

Oregon had 17 LBs on their roster according to 247, of which 11 were 4 star recruits, 7 of which were freshmen.

you missed my point. we're bringing in so many guys who can play that we'll be able to sub them in to keep them fresh (and healthy). meaning that the other teams may have 4*s but not enough of them to stand up to our guys, especially in the 4th quarter. I'm not denigrating our guys.

I never said you run 17, you are confusing posters again. Rushinbear is saying we are going to run numbers for "fresh legs." But even he didn't say anyone runs 17. You are just making stuff up again.

As far as the number on your roster, I have to go by what is on the roster as posted online. Your official website lists 13 LBs for last year but doesn't list Mothudi.

I never said you run 17, you are confusing posters again. Rushinbear is saying we are going to run numbers for "fresh legs." But even he didn't say anyone runs 17. You are just making stuff up again.

As far as the number on your roster, I have to go by what is on the roster as posted online. Your official website lists 13 LBs for last year but doesn't list Mothudi.

you missed my point. we're bringing in so many guys who can play that we'll be able to sub them in to keep them fresh (and healthy). meaning that the other teams may have 4*s but not enough of them to stand up to our guys, especially in the 4th quarter. I'm not denigrating our guys.

My points being we are bringing in 4 stars and my other point being that Tosh did not appear to adopt the "play a lot of fresh legs" last year at Oregon despite having 4 stars like Mothudi on the bench, because Mothudi, who this thread is about, barely played, even with injuries at the position as DuckTill Death informs us.

Tosh may change his strategy at Cal, but the safest bet is he will continue to give the most minutes to the guys he thinks are best (and healthy). Now somehow Duck thinks I am advocating the opposite, imaging in his head that I am saying Tosh wil "run 17" which is the opposite of what I was saying (for the record, I am not advocating anything here). However, it is far closer to what you are saying we might do which is why I said "even Rushinbear" is not saying we wil "run 17." No offense to you was intended, I was just responding to Duck's wild misattributions and insults.

This thread is a perfect example of several posters who think they are smarter than everyone else and the thread quickly devolves into a keyboard sword fight.

Seriously, can we just get back to interesting football conversations and stay away from he said she said rebuttals? If Duck really quacks then just ignore him/her and don't take the bait.
